No appetite

Last week I started feeling nauseous the majority of the time. Luckily I haven't been physically getting sick. Even when I'm not nauseous, my stomach just feels weird. I can't tell half the time if I'm hungry or not, and I don't feel like eating anything! Has anyone else had similar symptoms?

Re: No appetite

  • Oh yes! I hardly have an appetite and some of my favorite foods make me cringe or worse.. puke.

Even if you feel awful, at least have a small meal.. it will help. Try to find at least one meal that sounds decent to you and just have it as often as you can. I've found that white rice, peas & chicken nuggets seem to do ok for me..

  • What you're describing is exactly how I feel- except I'm nauseous & dry heave-y. I've been forcing myself to eat easy to digest stuff- applesauce seems to go down ok. And for some reason an egg & cheese sandwich is about all I ever want when I am hungry (or the weird feeling that sort of resembles hunger)

  • My appetite this pregnancy has been better. Even though I still get nausea and physically sick in the evening, I think I eat more frequently this pregnancy. I think eating little at a time is actually helping with the nausea part. I don't feel the all day nausea pain I did with my first pregnancy. But it's been a carb overload diet for me. All I can eat is bread and egg in the morning, crackers for snacks, and noodles/ramen for lunch or dinner.
  • I have days where I'm too nauseous to eat anything and then others when I can't tell if I'm hungry or feel sick. Just the past two day have I had any type of appetite. Usually nothing sounds good or like it would sit well. Cantaloupe has been my go to snack this week. And cereal my go to "meal"

  • I cringe at every meal even though I don't have trouble eating them. I just physically don't want to. Small snacks are great and they take away the hunger pains. You're experience is normal - it just sucks!
  • This is exactly me.  I am repulsed by some of my favorite foods, and the rest of them I seem to have to force myself to eat.  I've been doing small portions and that's helping, but I just really don't want to eat anything.

  • You described it perfectly - that's exactly how I feel it sucks. The idea of
any meat whatsoever makes me sick - I have been eating Cheerios and bagels and carbing it up which I hate. I hope this passes soon - I am not hungry at all right now but my stomach has that "weird feeling" I need to have a cracker or something - feel better soon
  • I've been having this as well, part of it is the slowing down of the GI tract. I have gone mostly vegetarian because my body just doesn't want meat apparently. Except for mcdonalds, I would eat a few burgers from there any day lately but have been able to beat back the craving all but once so far. I find hard boiled eggs easy protein for me because I can't smell them as much as most foods and they are fast to eat. Hopefully I don't lose too much weight with the food aversions, my doc was already worried about me being too skinny prepregnancy.
  • I haven't really been feeling sick, but I definitely have not had much of an appetite. Food just doesn't really interest me all of a sudden. But usually when I do start to eat I scarf it all down and go back for more and then maybe a little more... haha.

  • I either have no appetite or I'm starving!  All or nothing it seems.  And I am having total aversions to vegetables, which is unusual for me.  When I do eat, I feel like I very specifically only want certain things, and if I can't have those things, I don't really want to eat anything.

  • Same here! I wouldn't even say I'm nauseous, just not interested in eating! I'll hear my stomach growl and be like, oh I guess I should eat something now. It's not fun forcing myself to eat :( I'm normally a food lover so this is a major change for me!

  • Exactly the same, even if i feel hungry when i see food or have just 1 bite i dont want to eat anymore. I thought it happened because i stop smoking and am always nervous, but perhaps there is another reason....
  • But i noticed that pregnancy made me to eat healthier, portion are smaller, usually its food of 1 kind and i dont want ti eat after 6 anymore
  • Ugh, yes I'm going through this right now. I've had nausea for about 2 weeks now, worse this week. I even have gotten sick twice this week getting ready for work. :( no fun. I feel better after I eat but nothing sounds good... Except pizza. Lol

  • Mine has started kicking me in the butt this week! The only time I can bring myself to eat a full meal is at dinner, and I literally scarf it down. Lol, I try to eat breakfast and lunch but even the thought just brings me to horrible nausea. Frustrating!!! :(

This is exactly what is going on with me. Usually, I love veggies, but can't stand them right now. I have learned that fresh veggies are okay with me, it's the cooked that I can't stomach. When I'm hungry, I have to figure out what the one exact thing I want is or I can't/won't eat. And now that nausea is coming into play, if I don't eat as soon as I get hungry I start to feel sick. Also, once I eat to a certain amount of fullness, I start to feel sick.

I'm surprised my finickiness isn't driving DH nuts, but he's been pretty understanding about it all.
