@Pepperedmoth (& other breech mamas)

@pepperedmoth - what are you doing now to flip the baby? My little boy just flipped breech last week, so I haven't looked into it a whole bunch. My OB said we would talk about it more in the next couple of weeks and if he doesn't flip back to discuss a version. I read the spinning babies site, but it's a bit confusing. I have also read about applying hot or cold packs? (Which funny enough is why I think he flipped up. I noticed him do it in the bathtub the other night when I was lying on my side in the hot water.)

Re: @Pepperedmoth (& other breech mamas)

  • I haven't tried anything yet because I figure I'm having a c-section so it doesn't really matter, but I'm curious to see the responses.  In the last week or so, he's pushing his head really hard against my stomach so that I can always see his head shape on the outside of my belly.  It hurts, and I'm really bruised.  Plus I could do without the constant crotch kicks.

I'm a little nervous to try to move him because I've read that sometimes breech babies are breech for a reason... like the cord is around their neck and it won't let them turn.  So paranoid-me thinks I should just deal with the pain.

  • That's part of my paranoia too @katykatykaty. I read that trying to turn them can cause cord problems, so I don't want to mess with anything!

He's actually in kind of a weird position. The tech said he was butt down and completely folded in half, and facing my back. So his head is now poking out the very middle of my stomach. I can pretty much put my hands around the back of his skull. His movements are so different than in the past!
  • Wow, that's very similar to how my LO is, too.  The bottom of his head is even with my belly button, and I can physically put my hands around his whole head.  My husband thinks it's super cool, but it's freaking me out.  He must stretch out sometimes, though, because I do get kicks in the crotch.  But maybe those are arm movements?

I got excited because last night I woke up to feeling hiccups really low, so I thought maybe he turned, but when I got up this morning his head was still in the same place.

  • I'm not breech! :-) I'm just always paranoid that he is, so I ask my MW to check at every visit.

In between appointments, if I'm feeling anxious, I do perform the forward inversion from the spinning babies website (they say it's good for all mamas, breech or not) because it feels sooooo nice on my tired belly.

Gah! I swore it was you! Maybe @babycaps? I should probably search, but we all know that won't happen.
  • Yeah, @babycaps is breech right now, I think.

  • I haven't tried anything yet, but my OB is going to give me instructions at my next appointment to get her to turn (if she's still breech).

I'm hesitant to try anything after reading pp's though in light of the cord issues. The cord was clearly around her neck at my 32 week scan 2 weeks ago.

  • Yep, it's babycaps! She's a pretty logical one to mix me up with. :-)

  • @bennieangel At my appointment yesterday, my doctor said that LO still had plenty of time to move, but he didn't give a definite time frame.  He did say that since he's been breech at my last few ultrasounds, he thought him turning was unlikely.

  • Can't they see in an US if the cord is around the neck?  I know they do an US before trying a version, and I thought that was part of why.  Not that I'd be excited about a version anyway - just curious.
  • Maybe they can?  They've never pointed the cord out to me before during an u/s, and I've never asked about it.  I have another one in a few weeks, so I might ask then if baby's still breech.

  • They check out his cord at all of my scans. We get such detailed scans, that I think they would know by now if it were around his neck. I'm more nervous about moving him and it going around his neck.
  • My baby A is breech. His movements hurt so bad already, the though of him flipping makes me cringe in what kind of pain that could bring on!

  • I've heard that a chiropractor (trained in the Webster technique,) actually has a higher rate of success than an ECV.

  • My LO is breech.
    I wasn't sure, but suspected.
I've had 3 U/Ss in the last few weeks. Breech for ever one of them.

Both of my other kids were head down and I knew it.
This one squirms a lot, so I wasn't getting 'kicks' just movement. That's why I suspected breech.

OB will not worry until 37-38 weeks since she wants to induce at 39 due to my age.

I will try spinning babies if LO is still breech at my next BPP.
