Cat naps

Any advice on how to lengthen cat naps? Will it just happen with age?

My LO takes 30 minute naps almost to the minute...with about 2 hours of awake time in between. She goes into the crib sleepy but awake. Most of the time she wakes up happy. We follow "EASY"

    Whiskey?  ;)  I'm totally kidding.  DS2 sleeps longer if I have a sleep machine on... are you using anything like that in the room?

    Yes, we use the sound machine and sleep sack-just like she goes to bed at night! Luckily she's happy when she wakes up. I've tried putting her down before I saw signs of tiredness, but then she cried a lot more than usual so I just assumed she wasn't ready for a nap. I could always give it a shot again!

    When my LO wakes up 'too soon', I like to feed her a little and lay her back down. It is usually a 5 minute process. She will typically sleep another hour after that. Sometimes she doesn't want to eat or stays awake after her feeding which is (or course) how I know she feels rested.

    I guess part of my issue is she wakes up happy as a clam, and wide awake, with big smiles. I don't think there's any way I could get her to go back to sleep once she's up!

    If mine wakes up after a short nap I rock him back to sleep. He doesn't nap well though so I end up holding him for the last half of most of his naps. It's ok for me though. He sometimes wakes up smiling at me too, but he is usually still tired if it has only been 30 minutes or so.
    I would still try to rock yours back to sleep, and if your baby really doesn't want to go back to sleep then maybe cat naps are all that is needed.

    That sounds exactly like DS, 30 minutes on the dot. I do what Adrd47 does and give him a couple of minutes of laying there to see if he falls back asleep, sometimes he does and other times he doesn't. He still goes to bed on time and sleeps through the night most nights so I'm assuming it's ok.

    I usually hold DD for her naps and for those short naps if she is smiles and happy when she wakes then I don't try to get her back to sleep. If she's cranky, then I try to nurse or rock her back to sleep longer. She takes them anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. Rarely she'll take a two hour+ nap.
