The Two Week Wait

Well... here I sit in the middle of the two week wait! Not much to do, but try to keep busy and think positively.

Let me preface this with I'm 44, so I have a lot working against me... but I was happy to hear that at my egg retrieval, they pulled 8 eggs. Four of them matured and all fertilized with ICSI. Two were 8 cell, one 6 cell and one 4 cell. They transferred all of them last friday.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I've read that the presence of semen increases the viability of the implantation, so we had sex the night before the implant. We have waited to have sex again, but we may tonight.

Immediately after the ET, I was crampy and generally felt tired and icky, but was pretty ok. I took it slow all weekend and returned to my desk job on monday. So far this week has been fine. No pain, no spotting AT ALL! I don't know if it speaks to the skill of my Dr. or to my body - probably both, but I had no spotting after retrieval and no spotting after transfer. A week now and no spotting.

So I'm just doing my thing, taking it easy and slow, not lifting anything over 10#, trying to eat really healthy, drink lots of water and get lots of rest. I've also continued all of my supplements - New Chapter pre-natals, wheatgrass pills, slow release magnesium, my zyrtec. I'm also still on a program of estrace twice per day and progesterone vaginal inserts twice per day.

Wish me luck! I know that my chances are... what do they say? 4% of a successful implant? I'm crossing my fingers, saying some prayers and lying low.

On a side note - I have chosen to tell only a few people.... I have not informed most of my family. I've decided that even if I get a positive Beta on Feb 5th, I'm not going to tell anyone until 14-16 weeks. I know too many women that have lost babies at 4 months - even 6 months. I just don't think I could deal with the public discussion of such a loss.

I'm curious if anyone else that has had an ET has had spotting or bleeding? They said it was normal.

Saying prayers for your success!

I didn't have any spotting or bleeding after ET, either- in fact the nurse made a point of saying that we could have sex after the spotting stopped in 3-4 days (cause that is exactly what I wanted to hear immediately after ET, lol!) But I did have a fair amount after ER.

I'm also on Zytrec, too, although they would have preferred me to take Claritin, but that doesn't work for my dermatographism and neither did any of the Chinese herbs my acupuncturist recommended.

I think you have a good approach. I've been pretty open about doing IVF, so there isn't going to be a way for me to avoid telling people if I get a positive Beta on 2/3, but I'm a worrier, so I will still be anxious over the next couple of months even if it does come back positive. The one thing I have refused to do is post about it on FB and I had to tell one of my friends to stop making references to IVF and pregnancy on my page or in comments because I don't want to have to announce bad news on FB.
