Induction frustration/vent

Well, I had my last appointment last Tuesday. At that time, I was told I was 2cm dilated, and would likely not make it to induction, which doctor said would be scheduled for Jan 31.

When I went to check out, they scheduled my last BPP (for this Tuesday). The receptionist also told me that I had to report to the hospital L&D that morning at 6am. We (DH, his family, and I) all made plans for this.

Fast forward to my BPP. The tech asked me if I was seeing the doctor (which I said nope-just induction on Friday!) When we left the office, the receptionist double checked with us to be sure we had our next appointment scheduled... I told her we had no more appointments-just induction on Friday! Well, apparently the med assistant overheard and went with it, but the more she got to thinking, she didn't think we were actually on the schedule.

Just now, I got a phone call from the office and they told me Friday would NOT be the day because they forgot to schedule me, and they couldn't fit me in Friday. So it has been changed to Sunday evening.

Now, that wouldn't be so bad, except for a few things: 1) Sunday evening is the Super Bowl. DH is not thrilled. (Nor am I-with my GD, I was looking forward to splurging on snacks for this purpose- baby would be out by then, and GD would be gone!) 2) along the lines of GD... At my last MFM appointment, they gave me 2 days worth of 'freebie' test strips and lancets so I could make it to my supposed induction on Friday. Well, now I'm 2-3 days short on supplies. Either I refill my strips/lancet prescriptions --100 strips/102 lancets for $40 (when I need maybe 10 of them)... Or, I call MFM and ask for more freebies. I'm not sure which to do.

Plus, of course, she could always decide to come on her own before then. (We'll be doing plenty of walking this weekend, I'm sure).

Anyways. Vent over!

  • Oh man. Major bummer. I can understand how Friday was your "promised land" date. Hang in there and know it will be less than a week before LO is here!

  • I feel your pain, something similar happened to me and I stead of the jan 31st date we were given we got pushed back to feb 3rd.

Hopefully our little ones will come of their own volition and before/after the sb.

  • In general, extra time won't hurt... And I would be happy to have LO on Feb 2 (my grandma's birthday). It's just so sucky to be planning on this, only to have it changed. My SIL took off Friday, so she could be available-and she has extra training hours she's working next week (and will be out of town). DH took off Friday, and was planning to start his FMLA leave then. It's just way more inconvenient for all of us, this last minute change. Frustrating!

  • I hear ya. I'd flip shits too because my fam is coming from out of state and only has a limited number of days for vacay, so I hear ya. I hate when incompetent people can't do their jobs. I mean how hard is it to put something into a computer?

  • Similar thing happened to me w/ my RCS- doc told me it would be on Tues 2/11 early in the morning.  OK great.  Then next week, I show up and they hand me my official scheduling notice and it says Monday 2/10 at 5 pm.  Well, I'm fine with the date (other than the fact that we have 2 other family members with this same birthday!) but 5 pm SUCKS.  I get super crabby when I haven't eaten and this means I won't be able to eat at all after 10 am.  Not cool.  DH is equally bummed b/c he knows he will take the brunt of my hanger.

  • That's the only good thing-even though I go in at 6pm, the med assistant said to eat normally all day. I plan on getting DH out every day this weekend and walking all over the place... Maybe we can convince her to come out earlier on her own!

  • I'm sorry you're frustrated! I'd definitely ask for the freebies.. 40 dollars for 80 of something you don't need is stupid.

  • Dude that totally sucks!!! I am pissed off for you. I hope you can go into labor on your own and avoid everything!

  • I will definitely call in the morning and explain the situation to the MFM. Hopefully they will accept a trade-in of my extra insulin syringes for the couple extra days of testing things!

Also, there's this storm coming-it was supposed to hit this weekend, but has been changed to Monday/Tuesday... I was glad we would likely avoid it with the Friday induction... But now we're back to square one on that

  • Oh man. Giving birth during a snow storm was my 2nd biggest fear. My MW's reassured me it's no big deal and baby will come when she wants to and if it's during a snow storm...it's during a snow storm. My MW's have done hundreds of births, even in the middle of a hurricane. Hopefully you are somewhat near your hospital. If so, just try to stay calm and know whenever baby decides to come, it will be just fine. If your car slides into the curb when you arrive to the hospital because of snow, so be it! :)

  • I'm not too worried about being in the hospital during the storm-more worried about getting home! We live 20-30 minutes from the hospital. Most of the route home would typically be cleared (interstate & road that is used by truckers-delivering/picking up from Proctor & Gamble). BUT: our neighborhood is a totally different story. They don't pay much for snow removal... so we have 1 guy that comes through one time (doesn't even clear the whole road-just a path down the middle). Our roads are pretty hilly and curvy-around a lake. DH's truck (4wd) can normally make it without a problem, but my car is useless. The carseat is currently installed in the car-we are going to have to figure out how to properly install in DH's truck. Which may be interesting. (Small extended cab Tundra-we aren't 100% sure it will fit in the backseat even).

  • I'd be pissed too! As for the weather, I delivered my first in a blizzard. I was scheduled to come in right when it was getting bad so I called and asked of I could come in early. They let me and even though they didnt have my private room ready for me, I was still able to hang out there. As for clearing the roads, by the time you're ready to go home they'll prob be fine. Just like someone up to take care of your property and you should be all set. Good luck!
  • The interesting thing: my grandma's birthday was Feb 2. My dad and aunt have both expressed 'maybe she'll share grandma's birthday' earlier on. Just the other day, I told my dad it would be neat if she was born on Feb 2, but with a Jan 31 induction, I wouldn't want that long of a labor! And now they switched to Feb 2, although I don't go in until 6pm. We'll see! DH and I will be doing LOTS of walking this weekend-maybe convince her to come out on her own!
