Until the past couple months I always drove everywhere bc DH wouldn't- lazy arse. Now all of a sudden he drives almost always. I prefer to backseat drive- he just loves that!
We only have the one car right now so it's just whoever gets into the drivers side. There is no rhyme or reason to it. When we each had our own car it was whoever's car we took drove for the most part.
Dh always drove until I got pregnant. Then for some reason I was convinced he was going to get in an accident with me in the car. I guess it was some weird control thing. Now I usually drive, especially if A is in the car. Or the rare occasions he drives, I stomp on the imaginary brake on my side and grab the door handle every couple of minutes. It makes him crazy!
Any time we go somewhere I drive. We got together when he was 23 and he didn't get his license until he was 25. Which was the day after we bought our condo - banner weekend.
But teaching him to drive was awful. Worse than I imagine teaching my LO will be. And I always freak out when he does drive, so I just do it. I am jealous of the rest of you.
Dh usually drives because he has a hard on for the fetus wagon. He loves it. Plus I can't stand his commentary on my driving (which btw is wayyyy better than his. Just saying)
I never answered my own poll. DH mainly does. Once in awhile he'll ask me to drive if he's too tired or something..but he also has the more reliable car. And he's weird about letting me drive it. I've driven in maybe 2-3 times since he got it...in, I think, 2008. Which I think is funny, hes gotten in more accidents. The only one I was in, a girl rear -ended me. Oh well, I don't mind being the passenger, especially on long trips. Though we've never taken one longer than about 3 1/2 hours. Even then he drives the whole way.

We usually switch off, but sometimes when I'm driving he's a real PITA and I go on strike for a while.
"I don't know why you went this way, _____ would've been faster."
"Sometimes the things you do make absolutely no sense to me."
Or when I drive his car (stick shift) he nit picks the way I shift "If I was driving I would've shifted a little sooner/later/faster/slower."
And the number one thing that used to piss me off was if we were going somewhere new and he was navigating, I would ask what the next couple of turns were (so I can mentally plan them in my head). His response was almost always "You don't need to know" because he likes to push my buttons. Then one day he pulled that shit while driving up to NYC. It resulted in us missing an exit because he was too busy playing his game, and it resulted in some extra tolls.
If we are taking my car, I usually drive. If we are in his car he usually drives. If I don't feel like it for some reason he'll drive. We are both car people and enjoy driving but since A was born I've become a nervous passenger, and I hate that about myself. It's especially hard because DH is a racing driving instructor and coach, so he's very competent but borderline aggressive/risky. He knows what he's doing but I no longer enjoy on-ramps at 90kph like I used to. Lame-o.
