Oh, the toilet

Instead of Eau de Toilet...

Anywho, how's the pooping?  I've been able to go fairly regularly, which is awesome. I think part of it is that I have to wear a maternity support belt now, and there's just less room in there for it to sit around?  Whatever, as long as I'm pooping I don't care why!

Re: Oh, the toilet

  • Same here! I've had a good 2-3 weeks of daily magic.

  • I thought I dodged the constipation station, however I've arrived. I think I may have given myself an episiotomy this morning. Ow ow ow.

  • I was doing OK with the constipation until late last week. I will start adding fiber supplements this week, per the advisement of my OB. If tons of fruits and veggies, 2 stool softeners/day AND fiber supplements don't help... then I am out of ideas. Oh wait, suppositories. Good god, I hope I don't have to go that route.

  • @babygabe614 Suppositories... I had to go there a while back after 7 days of not going. I used the Fleet glycerin ones. H was a good sport because I needed help "administering" it, if you will. An hour later all was good. Good luck!

  • Still constipated here.  Ate a whole pint of blueberries yesterday, lots of other fruit and still nothing.  I would even settle for a good fart at this point.

  • @lyracelesti, I was advised to wear it based on the incredible RLP I got the other night when trying to pick up my toddler.  I just about dropped the poor thing on her head.  They suggested it for extra support.  I'm not sure it's doing anything other than making Charlie kick me more because he doesn't like being confined, but I'll give it a shot.  The pain doesn't come often, and it's generally only when I'm moving too quickly or picking C up without thinking about how I'm moving, so I'm doubtful that it's actually doing much good.

I didn't use one at all with C, but I think with the addition of a toddler to run around after, and this pregnancy being more difficult in general, I need the extra support.  I have a very simple one from Medela that just velcros on under the bump and around my back.  They have amazingly complicated looking ones, though.  Some look a little like pregnancy bondage!

So no, not everyone needs one, you may (hopefully) not end up using one at all!  Not insensitive at all. :)

  • @bebemac @joules235 thanks for the tips. I will look into the magnesium supplements first (I am obviously trying to avoid suppositories like the plague... but I think they may be in my future regardless).

Joules - question about the prolapse (because this was sorta kinda my traumatizing moment that happened last week) are you saying it stayed that way?! I know it's pretty personal and TMI but I almost took myself to the hospital because something like that was happening after a loooong painful time in the bathroom but it went back to normal on its own. Should I be worried?!

  • OMG I'm sorry but I had to laugh at your DH's comment, @joules235! I had an OB appt last night and of course didn't think to mention it since it's back to normal now, but I will keep an eye on that and bring it up in the future if necessary. Thanks for sharing some awkward personal info with me so I feel better about my butt issues.

  • I eat fiber cookies (it's really not as bad as it sounds they are tasty chocolate chip lol) and drink PLENTY of water and have no issues (knock on wood!) My OB said water is MOST important for this and a lot of other things but I'm sure everyone knows this already. We only buy 1L water bottles now at CostCo and I have 3-4/day :) Sounds like a lot but it helps!!
  • Lilygrace48 . I'm sorry you're in so much pain but I'm glad that it's not like, the kind of pain that you get because there is something very dangerous happening.  :)

Thanks!  It's not even there all the time, so I count myself lucky.  I just have to be careful how I pick up my giant toddler :).  Dropped her the other day, she didn't appreciate it much, lol.

  • @Lilygrace48 Oh no! I hope she's okay too :)

She's fine.  Baby girl has a hard head and rarely cries about knocks unless she's bleeding (though come to think of it, last night she was bleeding in her mouth somewhere and didn't seem to care...)

  • I've been completely stopped up for awhile, but ignoring it. I finally was feeling terrible and started eating a tsp of wheat bran every day, and thankfully after a couple days it started working. I feel so much better!!

  • Pooping has its good and bad days for me. Sometimes it's daily, but typically, its every other day. Actually, now that I think about it, I haven't pooped since Sunday night. Oh, the joys of pregnancy!

  • I had constipation for maybe a week a few months back. I was hoping my regularity would go through the whole pregnancy. About 3 weeks ago things got real soft and I was going 3 times a morning. I switched to a new prenatal and now I'm down to one soft BM a day. I'll take it over not being able to go.

@babygabe614 Try a magnesium supplement they can also get things moving. I was just realized I have a slight bit of rectal prolapse from being constipated after DD was born. No matter what kind of birth you have take something to soften everything up and if it doesn't work keep trying things even if you have to take an enema everytime you go. This prolapse thing sucks!!!
I second the magnesium idea. I've been taking a magnesium/calcium supplement recommended by our doula as a sleep aid, and I've definitely noticed the glorious pooping side effects.
  • I've been having an awful time lately, no good movements in over a week, and nothing at all for a couple days.   :(  I took milk of magnesia last night (well, maybe half a dose, I gagged and had to spit it out and almost threw it up, ugh) and had an awesome poop this morning.  And already I feel like I'm getting stopped up again :(  I hate constipation!!!

  • Oatmeal is helping. Had sex yesterday and went twice!! DH now gives me a high five when I come out of the bathroom.

  • i am grateful that i can go every day but they are never satisfying!  i know i should be ecstatic that i am still going, but anyone annoyed that the dumps arent the size they once were?

  • I'm going regularly but I am concerned I have re-torn. I have an appointment with a specialist Monday to see what is going on down there before it gets too much worse. Ugh UGh UGh!

  • Miralax mixed in with light orange juice and light cranberry juice and dried prunes have been working for me. Every night with dinner. Thirteen bean soup mixes (or any amount) also so the trick. However, you may get gassy. I may have sounded like a sad trombone last night. All night long.
  • @lizardbreath14, glad you
    Liked it...tonight is the same!

The prunes work well! Blueberries and raspberries actually have high fiber which work well too. :D
