So question for you ladies who have had kids or getting ready to have your first, do you buy water special for your newborn? I have had this come up and I am curious if there is an answer or not! Can tap water work or no?
Depends. If you have a well, it's usually recommended that you boil water before you use it for formula since there's a chance for it to have impurities that can be an issue for tiny babies. We were on the public water system when DS was born and still boiled the water just to be super safe. You can buy "Nursery Water" at BRU but personally I think that's just a waste of money when you can spend $20 on an electric kettle and call it a day.
If you're talking about water for bathing, etc. I really don't think it matters unless your only source of water is a swamp.
Just to add, we bought distilled water for formula by the gallon for like 40 cents at Target instead of the over priced Nursery Water which is the same thing basically.
Tap water can work. Check the fluoride levels of your water, there is a range it should be in that's fine to use. We used regular water bottles for when we were out and about for convenience.
DS was breastfed so we didn't really have a need for water (for bottles) when he was new. But I figure if I feel safe enough bathing my kid in our water, then I shouldn't be concerned about using it in bottles since more is being absorbed through their skin. But for formula feeding you can purchase nursery or distilled water if it makes you feel more comfortable.
