Maybe all I needed was a workout?

I've been pretty sick with MS and I forced myself to take a boot camp class last night because I wasn't feeling too nauseous. It was brutal. B.r.u.t.u.a.l. But I made it and just took it easy when needed. I felt a little sick after but nothing worse than what I've been feeling.. Annnyway...

Today I woke up a little sore but ms is gone! I'm hoping this sticks. Maybe I needed to get my blood pumping?

Anyone else experiencing this ?

Re: Maybe all I needed was a workout?

  • I don't know if I entirely agree with the crazy workout... I, personally, would only stick to what I'm used to and a random Boot Camp class that makes you sore the next day doesn't sound very safe.  I always took caution with that stuff though and stuck to what my body was already used to doing.  To each her own.

If working out like crazy helped the ms, then good!  I wouldn't push myself like that, but if you feel good and aren't worried, then yay!

  • I always feel better when I work out, so I'm not surprised a good workout helped combat the nausea.

  • I haven't had morning sickness this far, but I have been feeling exhausted for the past week and have been sleeping horribly. I went to the gym last night and did some incline walking at a normal walking pace and I feel great today! I slept well last night and I'm feeling fantastic! I was taking a break since I just did a full and half marathon a week apart, but I'm glad to see that being active was what I needed.
(FYI-I didn't know I was pregnant when I did my races.)

  • I definitely feel better when I actually get my lazy butt up and work out. Horay for less nausea!

  • So I got my BFP on friday - about a month ago - I ran 3.5 miles and felt awesome ( I'd been low energy). Go figure I was pregnant. That being said - not sure I'd even do that again knowing I'm pregnant. I know that when you exercise everything feels better because blood flows better and you're getting more oxygen. The problem is our bodies are burning a ton of energy trying to create a placenta + baby. I'd feel better with mild exercise ( although I'm high risk - so I ain't doing NOTHING) till I'm holding this baby.....

  • Ditto. My MS has not been too bad at all, but as this is my first pregnancy, I have no frame of reference. Mostly nausea when I'm hungry and food aversions. But after a quick workout this week, almost all symptoms are gone! Which is awesome b/c I have to fly a bit for business this week, and I can't imagine MS on a plane!

  • I've been continuing to do the bootcamp- type classes that I've been doing for the past year and I have had very little MS. Just some slight nausea here and there... mostly after I eat anything with a lot of sugar.

  • My midwife gives out a pamphlet of helpful tips for common pregnancy symptoms and exercise is mentioned for morning sickness and exhaustion.

However, both my old doc and my current midwife caution about trying a new or more extreme exercise regimine once pregnant. The prevailing wisdom is to stick with the exercise you were doing when you got pregnant.

  • I need to get off my butt and exercise.  This post is good motivation.  I was working out daily until 6 weeks and then morning sickness hit and I STOPPED.  I need to get back to it.  I've spent 3 weeks on my butt.  I'm glad the exercise helped... I'm going to use this as motivation to put a video in and work out today!

  • Ha, I believe it.  I did the Spartan Sprint Race on Sunday (don't worry, if the obstacle was way too ridiculous, i just skipped it) and besides being sore the next day, it helped me with my food intake and i got a great nights sleep!  Here's to exercise!

I do bootcamps several days a week usually, I just haven't in the last 2 weeks. My doc and trainer both say it's ok to keep up as long as I'm slowing down and modifying. The soreness is from finally doing something other than sitting on my butt :) hooray!

  • I do crossfit 5 times a week. I am nauseous 24/7 only time I feel decent is when I am working out.
  • Yep. we moved yesterday and I was basically moving (last minute packing, cleaning, unpacking, generally running around) nonstop from 6am to 7pm. Whereas I'd thrown up the day before, yesterday I only felt nausea around 1:30 PM when I took a break and wasn't actually doing anything.

It was crazy and I am exhausted today, so i don't know how well an adrenaline-fueled 100-box move is sustainable as nausea-remedy.

  • I exercised until 38 weeks with my ds and i felt goody entire pregnancy. Sometimes working out just helps me a) forget to focus in the nausea b) give your body what it needs. Just listen to your body. I highly doubt you will ever regret exercising and shaking the crumby feeling. Keep moving, momma!

So glad you're being smart about it and communicating with your trainer and doc!  Then get your workout on girlfriend!! I'm so sick of sitting on my butt... it's horrible.

  • Glad I saw this. I am a teacher and we've had a lot of snow days recently. On the days I've been at home I seem to have moreMS. Maybe it's because I'm not moving around as much. I'll definitely try to work out today and see if that makes a difference.
  • Maybe it was the good, sound sleep you had that alleviated the m/s?
  • I could see how starting to workout again could help!  Workouts do amazing things to the body!

  • I had just started Insanity two days before I got my BFP. Decided not to continue with it because I hadn't really been doing anything prior to that. Now not sure what to do. With asthma it hurts to run in the cold but it's too damn cold to go for a walk and the gym is always so crowded because we live on base. Gotta figure out something though. Thinking about doing Turbo Fire with all the modified movements. I always wanted to be one of those crossfit moms who can still RX the WOD at 39 weeks so DH and I started crossfit about a year ago, but had to stop when we moved in July because the crossfit coach here on base has no clue what he's doing.
