VBAC Stats

I'm 22w4d. I've planned on doing a second C but I want to know the stats on VBACs. Anyone have any good websites with factual information?

Or have you had a VBAC? Please share your experience. Thanks

Re: VBAC Stats

  • I don't have a website, but I can tell you what my OB told me. She said there is about a 1% chance of uterine rupture, but if it does happen it is a life or death situation for both mom and baby. She said she would only have a minute or two to get the baby out. If you go for a vbac your OB has to be with you the entire time as well. I'm not sure what the chances of the vbac not working are, but I think it's fairly high.

FWIW- I had 2 scheduled c/s (due to medical reasons). Recovery from a scheduled c/s is not that bad, even with an active toddler.

  • I'll be back at naptime with lots of good info for you!

In quick response to @sarahandeddiejune212008 though, there is an almost equal chance of uterine rupture with repeat cesarean. It's a risk after one c/s no matter how you choose to birth your next baby.

Thanks for the info. I was unaware of that. I'm wondering if my OB is more pro repeat c/s since it is a more controlled environment. I'll be looking more into it if we have baby #3.

  • Ok here you go.  I hate that this link is from a blog, but it's the best comprehensive overview out there and it links you right to ACOG and many other reputable sources.  Follow the links within (there are LOTS!) and read the research, not just this one article!  This is a fantastic summary though.
