Trying to Get Pregnant

O-day debate

I'm having a hard time reconciling my O-date with the various testing methods.  We aspire to BD every other day and then defitnitly 1dbo and O.  Here's what's happened:

Saturday morning: Consistent temp. Saturday evening: Negative faint pink OPK. EWCM all day. BD.

Sunday morning: Consistent temp.  Sunday evening: Negative more significant pink OPK test. EWCM all day.

Monday morning: 22/23 MM follicle at ultrasound. Consistent temp.  Monday evening: Positive OPK. EWCM all day. BD.

Tuesday morning: Follicle disappeared from ultrasound - OB confirmed O.  Consistent temp. Tuesday evening: Positive OPK. Not much EWCM. DH was thrown off schedule since this was earlier than planned against past charts - BD attempted but incomplete.

Wednesday morning: Positive OPK. Consistent temp. Dryish so far. Will still BD.

First question: Shouldn't my temp have gone up by now?  If the ultrasound confirms the O that's sort of what it is, right? It had to have happened then between 8am Monday and 8am Tuesday, so how come I'm still getting positive OPK's as well as no temp shift by Wednesday morning?

Bigger issue: This calls into question my last few months of charting and our timing. If my temp doesn't shift for a few days after O then perhaps I've been O-ing earlier than I thought?

Of course we did our best BDing with the information we had, but DH is super stressed now and feels bad he couldn't get down last night.  I'm more concerned with understanding the information for next time.  This is only my second cycle temping with BBT so I've not got much to compare against.  What do you all think?

ETA: I did read the newbie blog and am on FF and I'm just looking for how others would interpret the information so far - mostly since I'm new and still trying to understand my cycle :)

  • A link to your chart would be helpful.

  • I think I would assume I had ovulated early on Tuesday. Assuming I trusted my doctor, the ultrasound would mean more than the temping at this point. However, I'd say it's possible that if your temp keeps going up, your chart might end up looking ovulatory with a slow rise, backing up Tuesday as an O day. It's just too early to tell what your chart will look like though.

I also wouldn't be particularly concerned about still have a positive OPK on Wednesday. I don't have experience with ultrasound monitoring yet though, so maybe someone else can give you more information.

  • Hmm... I'm not sure about your O date, but I wanted to add that a few months ago I had an ultrasound and the doctor indicated I had a very mature follicle on the right side and would probably O in a 24-48 hrs however I'm fairly sure I didn't O until 4 days later.  So I'm not sure that I'd put all that much reliance into the ultrasound either - it can detect upcoming O but if you only had one US, not sure that the dr. can pinpoint when you Od.  If the cycle was medicated, I don't know about whether that affects my above response, mine was an unmedicated cycle.

  • Are you taking any fertility meds?  It's my understanding that can mess up your temps.  I think I would trust the ultrasound.  I agree that just looking at your chart I can't see that you O'd yet, but I'd be inclined to believe the dr on a monitored cycle.

Hi guys - thanks for all the quick responses :)

I'm not medicated yet, but I have been having ultrasounds every four days since CD10 to chart the basics of what my body is doing.  Its mandatory for my insurance before any fertility options can be considered and frankly, as it turns out, kinda cool to see everything on the screen.

I've seen each ultrasound as she's doing it and there was a clear large follicle on Monday and then nothing on Tuesday - so I can visually back up the doctor's assertation that something happened.  I think I'm paranoid that there was no egg.  I was super excited when I saw that the follicle disappeared, but then confused when I got no temp rise today and a continued OPK+.

  • Yeah I assume if you're having u/s you're medicated?  Which if so, I would trust the u/s, since meds can affect your chart.

  • I would trust the u/s. I posted a confused chart stalk post yesterday because my fertility signs tell me I O'ed two days ago, but I still got two positive OPKs yesterday. Your temps seem a little confusing, but if your u/s shows that you O'ed, I would believe it. Keep us updated!

    Hi Joy2611:

I have had bloodwork panels done twice with nothing wrong - all levels are well within normal with absolutely nothing to speak to.  The only issue I'm having (I think) is being 8 months off bcp with only 5 natural cycles that started long.

I also live abroad right now for work and this country's insurance requires different things than the US does (where I'm from).  If we're not pregnant off this cycle we can now go to an RE.

Last month I didn't think I O'd until CD24 since I didn't think the temps of CD22-4 were enough of a change to count - though FF felt otherwise and put it at CD21.  This is part of why I'm not sure what to count/trust.

Confused... You said you're having ultrasounds every four days, but then said there was a follicle there on Monday but then nothing on Tuesday. Thats one day after another, not four days apart

Also, my RE was able to confirm O given an "ovulation site" not sure if your dr wouldve seen the same thing.

  • @archi35 can you clarify, I also had a question.. you say you were going every four days for ultrasounds, but then you said you went on Monday and then Tuesday. So is it every day?

  • Hi - I went every four days and then she asked me back on Tuesday due to Monday's size and "readiness".

  • Hi Joy2611:  What would I otherwise ask about at this point then?  Or do you think maybe the OB isn't really knowlegeable, is giving me patchy info, and to just move on to the RE next cycle?  Thanks for your suggestions!

  • Another question are you over 35?
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • There is nothing else to share so I'm unfortunatley not hiding any bombs of truth here - I'm probably just impatient (I wish there was a bomb of truth, but no).  Though at 36 I also don't want to wait too long before getting assitance so that's where the impatience comes from I guess :)

I appreciate everyone's response and will try to reel it in and wait it out.  I'll move it over to the 2WW and lurk :D

    Thanks again!

  • I'm mobile I can't see anything. I don't have any advise about your OB because I don't understand why you are having to do all that just to get into a RE. I guess since they have a screwed up way of doing things in Switzerland hopefully you will get to see an RE next month.

I'm 39 and I ovulate every single month that doesn't mean shit! I understand the impatient feeling that comes over the age of 35. Sorry I don't have any advise, I just wanted to wish you luck!

For about a year after I went off BCP, my cycles were at least 40 days long. They got much shorter at the year mark. Your body may still be adjusting to the hormonal changes from stopping BCP, so I don't think you have anything to worry about yet. I don't think there's any doubt that you're ovulating based on your charts.

    Good luck!
