First cold vent

Last week, mil and my bil got hit with the cold-runny nose, cough, etc-DH and I avoided her house so Jocelyn wouldn't get sick. I told DH that bil should stay at mils house-she lives 4houses down-so Jocelyn wouldn't get sick...but bil had to be at the house. Now J is sick and her nose has been running nonstop. I feel horrible everytime I hear her sniffling. I've been trying to unplug it with the nose sucker bulb, but she's fighting me now. Tonight when I put her to bed, she woke herself up trying to breathe out her nose and started crying, which both made me feel terrible and want to throat punch bil for bringing the cold down here. ugh, vent over.
I haven't given her anythjng yet cause I'm not sure what's best to help her feel better. Any suggestions? Thanks ladies for the vent.

Re: First cold vent

  • William had a cold last week with a fever. I ended up taking him to the dr's because tylenol was not bringing his fever down. They had me do tylenol, then advil and so on for 24 hours. This helped. We also had 3 am parties in the bathroom with the shower on super hot for the steam to help get some of the mucus out. Vicks on his feet with socks, and some on his chest as well. It was a long few days with no sleep, I wish you lots of luck and sending hugs your way!

  • Kids will get sick. It's just the way it is. I've read that Vicks on the chest of young children actually makes things worse.

I would just use a humidifier and elevate her crib mattress a little if you think she's very congested. I also would use saline spray to thin out her mucus.

  • Babies are gonna get sick.., don't be too mad at BIL. Wait until you have another kid (if you choose to) and your first brings everything and it's mother home from preschool. LO has been sick 3 times already. It SUCKS!!! I just recommend fluid, humidifier, once or twice nose aspirator if she's really clogged, maybe Tylenol and lots of cuddles... Hope she feels better :)

A million times, this.  Also, the Vicks baby rub.

  • Thanks ladies, you're all the best. I knew we were gonna catch something sooner or later, I just wish he would've stayed at mils so we could have avoided this a little longer. It's been a long night, we just finally put her into our bed since she has been waking up every hour. I think the stuffed/runny nose is bothering her the worse, when she tries to breathe out if it and can't, she starts screaming her head off which kills me. Here's hoping it passes quickly.
