People not vaccinating because autism don't make sense to me. sure its challenging to raise a child with autism... but there's ways to treat it. If your child gets a vaccine preventable disease they're likely dead. wouldnt most people choose an autistic kid over a dead one?

The problem is the people making that choice don't understand the comparative risks. They do "research" and read only hysterical, pseudo-scientific anti-vaccine diatribes and/or they think there is some sort of government or pharmaceutical company conspiracy. And few people today know anyone who has died from or been permanently disabled by a vaccine preventable disease, so they are not afraid of them.

Speaking of things they don't understand, everyone knows Wakefield made up the data for those studies. It wasn't even inconclusive, it was just a blatant lie.

They should know, but the people who want to believe will still believe. Some people are just misguided, some want to be part of a renegade counterculture, and some think they are smarter than the medical establishment. The first group is sad, the others are just plain dangerous.
The thing is I totally took Jenny McCarthy's word for everything on Singled Out. I assumed she must have used her Playboy money to become a Harvard Researcher. It was so disappointing to find out otherwise ...
