Ditching the Bottle?

My daughter just turned 1 last week an our pediatrician said to have her off the bottle in the next month or two. My question is... how? I offer her sippy cups with milk in them and she will take a drink or two, but still really wants her bottle for the majority of her milk. Will she transition naturally or should I be doing something different? Thanks! https://www.thehodgsonspot.blogspot.com

Re: Ditching the Bottle?

  • I did it slowly and could care less what my pediatrician says. Regardless, mine said to not worry about it, and take my time.  I don't get it- really I don't and get fired up everytime someone posts here stressed about it because of their pediatricians.

My 1st was so attached, I did one bottle at a time and dropped it by 2 maybe? My second wasn't so attached, so dropped them altogether one day- just cold turkey and she could kind of care less. She didn't really drink much milk for a week or so though, then went back.

  • I'm not stressed about it - rather just curious about other moms' experiences. Thanks for your suggestions!
  • I would do half in a bottle and half in a sippy. I would give her the bottle first then when it was gone and she wanted more, I gave her the sippy. It had a soft spout so it wasn't a huge change from the bottle....she was fully on the sippy cup after 3 days.

  • It wasn't bad for us. We weaned over a weekend. At first she hated milk out of a sippy. But quickly got over it. Doc said to feed her crackers and only offer milk if it came down to it, but we never had to resort to that.
  • We put milk in the bottle for a couple of days then we just cut it cold turkey no issues.  We will figure it out.  I do think it is important to not have a bottle, bad for teeth and if you pediatrician recommends it then there is a reason.
