Pregnant after 35

17 weeks having redness and soreness to breasts

Hi ladies! Hopefully not too much TMI..I'm having redness and pain around both breasts worse on left. No fever.Really all indications of mastitis considering how quickly symptoms started..So off to OB I go and she really had no idea what it was other than my milk coming in too soon and too fast. Huh..what? So now I'm walking around with ice packs in my bra.I was given a rx for antibiotics in the event I spike a fever. This is my 2nd pregnancy.Anyone experience this? Also I thought warm was better than cold? I'm only a nurse, what do I know ; 0)

  • Make sure you stay on top of this, if you really do have mastitis you may be in for quite a battle after you have your baby. I am just getting over my second bout and it's been awful. In my case it's bacterial. I exclusively pump because my baby has severe latch issues- I have to make sure I pump regularly and I was told to use heat before pumping to encourage flow and cold after to reduce swelling. Since you have no milk flow yet your dr most likely wants you to ice to reduce the pain and swelling. Keep your nipples clean and dry and don't wear tight bras or tops. I hope it doesn't get worse, good luck!!
