I'm wondering if any of you have used care . com to find caregivers.

I will be returning to work at about 30 hours/ week once baby is a few months old. My DH will be 2 terms away from graduating with his BS. We will only need child are about 15-20 hours/week due to his school schedule. I've been told it's very difficult to find infant care at centers if you're only looking for part time, plus his schedule will change during midterms / finals. We've decided that an in-home caregiver (either our home or theirs) would probably be our best bet.

I've looked on Care . com to get a feel of what's out there but haven't ever actually used them. They offer background checks, references, etc. Wondering if any of you have an experience?

I used it, found one good sitter, she went away to college. Interviewed a few others, one guy applied by saying "so do I have the job?" The one "woman" I gave a test run to while DH and I went for pedi's, we came home to find her mesmerized by tween Disney. She was 22.

I found my sitter on there. It's a great place to look for options. We talked to a few and met with one that ended up working out.

Thank you ladies for the thoughtful responses. I really appreciate your input! I plan to ask around at church but thought of this as well. Sounds like we'll be weeding a lot of interesting people out if we go this route...

I used care.com twice and loved it! I interviewed 6 girls and found a perfect match for my DD. She worked for us for about 9 months and then I quit my job, but if I was working I would definitely use her again!

I've had great success with it - maybe it depends on location? I found my in home daycare provider and our date night sitter. I definitely recommend it!

I've never used care.com, but just a FYI for military folks in case you didn't know - sittercity.com offers free memberships to military members and dependents.

I was a nanny and I had several families that I worked for who found me on care.com. It was the best way for me to connect with families. I find that Sittercity isn't as user friendly. One thing to keep in mind when thinking of hiring a nanny is that you are considered their employer which does mean that you have to pay some of their taxes. This is obviously not the case if you are going to have a random date night babysitter. If you aren't comfortable with offering benefits, covering portion of taxes, and paid vacation you may want to think about in home.
