Hi ya'll. I am looking for advice on dealing with yeast. The baby acne I thought my LO had turned out to be a yeast infection. I am slathering him with a prescription anti fungal but am wondering if I need to be washing cosleeper sheets, blankets, jackets, etc every day or more often? It is mostly on his head, with a little in the diaper area. None in his mouth or my nipples, thank goodness. Also, any advice on washing/sanitizing wool? We've got some diaper covers and a nice wool blanket and I'm not sure if my usual cool water washing is going to fight the yeast beast off or not. Our pediatrician said wash and dry everything on hot, but I forgot to ask how often or what to do about wool.
By the way, I'm a bit of a shy poster around here but I live in north Florida and I have a 10 pound meatball of a lovely little man. I'm generally a crunchy, organic farming, trail hiking sort of gal. My husband and I make a lot of fermented foods (yogurt, kimchi, wine, etc) and are generally DIY-types. I only mobile bump.. Thanks in advance, I do enjoy the discussions.
Re: Yeast and an intro
Also welcome!
Mapeers, I asked about it at our 3 week well visit--the 'acne' was getting worse, especially on the back of his neck and behind his ears (basically where the breast milk ends up when I spray faster than he can gulp). A sort of crusty crud started forming there and that's what gave it away as being yeast rather than acne. Our pedi said yeast can quickly get out of control so I eliminated sugar and grains, we are both doing a high potency probiotic, and everything is getting washed everyday. And I am changing my shirt/nursing pads every time they get wet.
Chichigo, yes! Thank you! I just got some GSE and added to the rinse water. I'm thinking of washing the wool normally every few days (with wool soap) and then adding some GSE to the rinse. I won't lanolize until we have the yeast beast beat. Hopefully this will work--I've read everything from boiling the wool (uhh, no) to doing nothing because the yeast "can't live in wool".
Thanks for the thoughts!!
