When did you stop taking painkillers?

I'm 4 weeks pp and just stopped taking my extra strength Tylenol this week. Since I've stopped I've noticed a really tight uncomfortable feeling in my butt and vagina... I think it's time to start taking them again. (Fwiw I had a bad 4th degree tear with lots of stitches.)

Just curious - how long were you on drugs for and what were you taking?

Re: When did you stop taking painkillers?

  • I had a csection and was on Motrin from day 1 til about 1 week out. I healed quick and have a high pain tolerance apparently (only just learned that).

  • Im 3 weeks pp, had a c/s, and am still taking tylenol. More so for backaches; but I'm still a little sore
  • Omg 4th degree? I can't even imagine, that sucks majorly, all my sorries to you! I only had a second degree tear and took ibuprofen & Percocet in the hospital (delivered 1:39a on Wednesday, released on Friday afternoon), then Aleve for just a few days when I got home for pains from back labor. But with a 4th degree, if you think you need painkillers still, go for it. Just reading about them made my vag ache.

  • I had a second degree, I stopped taking Percocet as after 2 days and then I stopped taking the Motrin after about a week because I was swelling like crazy and my doctor said it could be from the Motrin. I then took extra strength tylonol for a few days or whenever I was hurting
  • Wow, after I quit taking the Motrin (maybe 2 weeks after, even though I could have stopped earlier) I got the same tightness for a few days, like I was clenching down there but couldn't help it. SUPER annoying. I didn't make a connection between that and stopping meds though, and the feeling went away on its own one way or another.

  • I took my vicodin until I dropped them down the garbage disposal like  jackass a few days postpartum. Motrin filled in after that. I guess I've never really stopped since I still.take Motrin for headaches almost daily.

  • I took pain meds for 2 weeks after delivery, I had a c-section.

3rd degree here. I took Aleve (prescrip strength) until 14d pp. Now I've just been taking Advil and Tylenol. I noticed a pain increase after stopping the Aleve, but not unbearable. Now I am only taking Tylenol 2x a day and Advil 2x a day. So gradually getting to be less.
    I'm 4w pp
  • I didn't take any after I went home, and just Motrin in the hospital. Only a small tear here (called a "skid mark: by my midwife, LOL).

  • I'm still taking Tylenol/ibuprofen 6 weeks pop. Mainly for headaches. Right after delivery I was taking both religiously for an epi and the removal of a hemi :( those pains went away about 3 weeks pop.
  • Took them for 6 weeks. I still take them before I have to go to the bathroom bc of some lingering issues if u know what I mean.

  • I took them until they were gone and then got Mastitis and took them again until they were gone.

  • When they ran out, so 10 days PP? I don't count Advil as painkillers.
Kate do you want my left overs? :p
Hmm...if only I was younger, the answer might be different!
  • I feel hosed.

I didn't get anything (vaginal, no tearing).

With DS1, they handed me a script for percocet.

  • I took mine for about the first week and half. I also had a 4th degree tear but remember everyone's pain level is different! Don't hesitate to take them if your hurting! I also should have probably still been taking them but was really too stubborn to take the pills (I have a super hard time swallowing them)

  • Not sure of my tear degree but I took prescription Motrin for about 10 days. I never take any pain killers so it worked more than I needed. I kept getting the feeling that I was pushing my body too hard with housework. I need to feel the pain to know how far I can push my body before I do any harm. That way, I relaxed with LO more, which was great!
  • I never even got my prescription filled. I had a tear on my labia and only ever took Motrin a couple of times in the hospital. The funny part is they prescribed Narco and had it as my other option in the hospital even though I had a drug allergy band with Vicodin written on it. FTR, not allergic, it just makes me puke a lot.
  • I had a c section and took tylox and Motrin the first week and loratabs the second week. I currently take Motrin for some left over sciatic pain in my butt area

  • They gave me 600mg tablets of Ibuprofen that I took for probably 5 weeks pp.

  • I had a c-section and was given Motrin (that's the ibuprofin right?) and percocet. I was off the percocet by the time I left the hospital. I took the Motrin for another couple days just to be safe but didn't really need it.

I apparently have either a high pain tolerance or easy recoveries or both. :P
I have both, but I still take it! LOL
  • I had a c/s and only needed Motrin at the hospital. I never took anything after I came home. My recoveries with all have been easy.

  • I had slight tearing and was offered Motrin. I never took it regularly, just to help with the swelling initially and occasionally for the first week or two.

  • Third degree here. I took norco till about 2 wks pp and then Motrin for another week after that. Now I take Motrin here and there - mainly for headaches. I stopped the Norco bc of constipation but I definitely felt the tight uncomfortable feeling after stopping. I feel pretty good now at 4wks pp and haven't had any pain or tightness.
