TTC after 35

Dear Wondfo (Lot w00121124-3): you suck (pic included)

edited January 2014 in TTC after 35
Good morning ladies: Just a rant and PSA about the above-mentioned batch of Wondfos. I was up at 4 this morning (my son has a cold and he couldn't sleep, the poor kid), and decided around 5:30 to pee on a delightful Wondfo. So I did, and then was busy getting my son ready for the day. I came back 20 minutes later and found the test showing not one, but two purple lines! I am pregnant, but only on the edges apparently. This was weird, and tI checked the test waaaay after I should have, so I squeezed out some second morning urine and dipped more sticks (the next three after the glaring one). On two of them, I got the same "double-lined" sort of positive, and the last test appears negative to me. I googled the lot number and apparently women on The Bump are getting false positives AND false negatives with this batch. Hooray for accuracy! Why do I buy these crappy things again? Oh, because it's like .20 cents a stick. Grrr. Anyhow, because I am an ass, I don't have a frer handy and am too tired to go get one right now to either confirm or deny my BFN. I will go shopping after work, but now I get to spend the day being cranky over this morning's mindf@@k. If you ladies are fellow Wondfo users, you may want to check your batch numbers and have a frer at the ready in case this happens to you. Stupid Wondfos. Morning rant over. ETA: spoke too soon. The fourth test dried up a bit and now also has the double line positive---AND a shadow of a second control line to boot. There's lines all over the place on that test, and I trust none of them. Again, stupid Wondfos. I am kicking myself for not having anything else in the house to pee on, but I honestly think this is a bad batch overall. ETA#2: took a fifth test. This test was the lone voice of reason--BFN. At least I will now be able to concentrate at work today . I should stop being so cheap and buy more frers if only to avoid this nonsense. Oh well!

  • I have tests from a bad batch but unfortunately I can't even get a false positive on one. I just wait for AF every month now.

  • I am sorry :( it sucks all around. I guess we get what we pay for with these Internet bargains, but it'd be nice to have confidence in a positive OR negative. I thought I had a frer kicking around, but it was just an empty box. Wondfos should come with a complimentary bottle of wine for occasions such as these.

There's more than one bad batch.

Pos beta mentioned: Another girl I just cycled with and I did an experiment with wondfos after I got a shadow of a li e but then beta was higher than expected for that stupid shadow. She tested several tests at once and got varying shadows to darker lines at the same time and her beta was well over 200. These tests are not reliable for much right now.

  • I'm assuming these are for HcG tests, but what do you think about LH? I've NEVER gotten a pos LH w/ wondfos. Whether it's me or the stick, I'm not sure. But this makes me question the stick.

  • I thought any line was positive? I know the internet cheapies that are Lh never get darker than control line...so if I get any line, we bd....

  • Yes, these are HCG tests. I also have the Wondfo OPKs, and those seem to work (I say "seem" because I usually break those out during "the window" and I do get positive OPKs that seem to coincide with the wicked cramping I now have during ovulation. When I did get a surge, the line would be as dark, or often darker, than the control line). But now I am questioning those tests as well.

I don't think the any line is a positive when it comes to these bad boys, because, if you look, there are two positive lines--like, it is an outline of where the positive bar would be. I've used Wondfos when pregnant before and after my miscarriage, and the HCG bar was always a solid bar. Plus, there's an extra line popping up next to the control on one of these tests. They have to be faulty, as the final test I took is stark white. It seems this batch is rife with problems. Rats.

  • I'm sorry for the frustration.  I actually almost never use HPTs anyways, I only buy Wondfos for the OPKs and the batch I buy happens to come with a handful of HPTs thrown in which I rarely use.  I just hate seeing all the negatives, so I always plan to wait for my period to be really late before going and buying a FRER for reliable results.  Hasn't happened yet in a year, unfortunately, so there have been no FRERs in my house for quite some time.

  • I am pretty bummed, but I should know better than to start testing 4 days before my period is due to begin with. This is the universe's way of saying to cut that crap out. I sent the pictures to my husband, and he got all excited, but then I explained the flaws in the tests. Since "it ain't over 'til it's over," I will buy some FRERs and see what happens in the next few days, though I'm not expecting much. I've got the worst cramps in the universe, so I'm pretty sure AF is nigh.

On a good note, I can still uncork that magnum of wine that has been calling my name, and that's not a bad thing, especially after this morning's excitement. Thanks for the support, ladies.

  • Yeah, I'm not liking those Wondfos either...I tried the opks this month and I just didn't like the weird lines. I figured I'd have af today (I do) and out of curiousity, I poas on one this morning-and it came up two dark lines. Ok lol. Next month I'm going back to expensive smiley faces!

I have a bunch of thepreg tests too (came with). Lol I should poas on one tonight just to see what happens : )

Many women actually have a strong LH surge around when their period arrives, it's quite common to have dark lines on an OPK at that time, it's just that women rarely test with OPKs at AF time so don't know it can happen - it's certainly not a reason to not trust them, at any rate.

  • Hmm, the Wondfos I have seem to be fine. Still on my first order since it came with so many (50 OPK and 20 HPT). I have only used a couple of the HPTs and no false anything, just stark white BFN which was accurate...

@ProcessofBecoming, let is know how it goes with the FRER! I have a few of those stashed away to use as a backup if I ever turn a Wondfo.
  • Well this is weird. I went to Shoprite and bought what I thought were pink dye tests (they were Shoprite brand, but in a pink box--They didn't have First Response behind the counter), but turned out to be crappy blue dye tests. That turned positive, but that could also be an evap. I then went back out to Walmart, where I know they have FRERS and bought a box of 3. Tested this morning with FMU--stark white negative. I trust the FRER above all else. If I was pregnant enough for a wondfo, I should be pregnant enough for a FRER. I've learned my lesson about those Wondfo tests. Caveat Emptor!

  • I'm sorry, how frustrating!! I do trust FRERs a lot. If you want a cheapie test and have a Dollar Store nearby, they have a good test.

  • The worst of all of this is not the faulty test, but that I started to jazz myself up, thinking "Wow, my boobs are killing me!" (which they are) and "Man, my back hurts!" (which it did--I thought I screwed it up and took Advil just so I could sleep. And "I am sooooo tired." I am 42, work full time, and have a special needs toddler. Of course I'm tired.

So me and my phantom symptoms were all sorts of excited this morning when I POAS. And then the FRER bitchsmacked us both back into reality.

I am thinking I am getting the Mother of All Periods this month, based on how craptastic I feel. Thank you, Mother Nature. Ah well, what can you do, right?

  • Oh man, that sucks :( I had a similar experience with a Target brand test, it was positive I was so excited, my hubby was excited etc etc....called my doula she says test again, I test again with ones I just bought from store, neg, next morning again neg. My Ob said I was probably pregnant for a hot minute but thats all it was a hot minute.

:( There should be an easier way to know :) like the instant you conceive and the the instant of implantation there should be fireworks or something.

That happened to me this month, too, with a dollar store test (and many, many subsequent negative tests to prove it was just a fluke.) I don't even think I was pregnant for that hot minute, though--just a defective test. :-L

@HeathernSteven, I agree that better signals are in order, & like your idea. Might be confusing and/or awkward if implantation happens when you're in public, though (was that you? You? Well, congratulations!)
