Cutting out and reintroducing dairy

I had cut out dairy soon after LO was born due to excessive vomiting, gas, and crying. It may have helped but didn't ease any of the symptoms completely. since then we have started giving her baby Zantac which has certainly helped! If I started eating dairy again does anyone know how quickly it would bother LO "if" it is going to bother her?

Re: Cutting out and reintroducing dairy

  • I've cut out dairy for both DSs. With DS2 I cut it out, and reintroduced it cause I wasn't 100% that was his issue. I noticed fussiness about 2-3 days after getting back on, and green poop and whole lot more gassy about 5 days later. I'm dairy free again.

  • I'm going to eventually do the same thing and was going to cal the doc and ask. I imagine it's not immediate?

  • I cut out dairy just last week and it's helping LO tremendously. I'm scared to reintroduce it. He has eczema all over his cheeks, which is clearing right up. And he hasn't been nearly as gassy. What sucks is that I've pumped and froze a good amount milk for my return to work, but I'm not sure if it's completely no good now since I was eating dairy.

Maybe that's a question for @AmyG - sorry for the possible thread jack OP!

  • @jenniferbromley I was wondering the same thing. I pumped and froze while I was still eating dairy. Now I wonder how it will affect LO. I go back to work on Monday.
  • @abc123babies I would think it's not good anymore. Which totally sucks! But they say that babies can outgrow the intolerance. So maybe we could put that milk at back of our stash?

I had the same problem, i just dumpet it.. But I didn't have a whole lot, and it was a stash for emergencies since I am not going back to work.

I asked my doc about if, and she said I should only try to reintroduce milk after 6 months. ( cutting milk made a huge difference) and that I should throw away the milk I had frozen.

I may hang on to it, just in case and put it in the back of the stash like Jennifer suggested. I'm not 100% sold on the fact he actually has an intolerance but only time will tell.

I don't have a huge stash but I don't want to dump any of it!
  • If you have pumped milk that isn't clean I would save it because that is the milk you can use to try to reintroduce without tainting your milk supply.
I waited until DD1 was old enough to  ingest dairy directly before trialing her.  She became fussy withing a few days after the first try at 8 months.  At 10 months we were good!
