Bell's Palsy

Yup, 3 months PP and I developed Bell's Palsy. The entire left side of my face is none functional. It makes for some hilarious faces, but truly it SUCKS. I've already started some Medrol prescribed by Urgent Care. Any tips on how to deal/help this shit out? Though I'm pretty sure there's not much that can be done.

Re: Bell's Palsy

  • My husband has it.  In most cases, it will improve on it's own over time and you don't really need to do anything.  Sometimes facial exercises are recommended but they aren't guaranteed to help.  Time is pretty much the only thing that makes it improve.  From what I have heard, it is fairly common in pregnancy and PP.  One of my friends had it PP and you can barely tell now 5 months later.

My husband's is permanent though.  Occasionally, it looks like he's regaining some control but he still only blinks with one eye, his mouth doesn't close all the way when he's eating, and his smile isn't fully formed.  His doctor prescribed him prednisone twice and it didn't help.  I'm sure this isn't your case, as he is an extreme.

Just watch it and if it seems like it's getting worse, go see your doc again.

  • I'm really sorry! A friend of mine had it in high school. I don't think there is much you can do, but hers did go away.

  • Oh no! What a pain! I'm so sorry to hear that. Do you have any sensation at all on the affected side? Ts and Ps this will go away soon...

I still can feel most everything - my tongue has some numbness but if I touch my face I feel that. I can move the eyebrow a tiny bit but otherwise there is no expression or movement :(

  • My mom had Bell's Palsy when I was in middle school. She tried everything and then her massage therapist found out she had it. She told my mom she could help her so they set up an appt. I want to say she did something like rain drop therapy? I could be making that name up, but either way I do know massage therapy of some kind is what worked for her.
