Trying to Get Pregnant

TTC before colonoscopy?

I have to have a colonoscopy done (sigh...) and of course I am supposed to ovulate prior to the test.  I am assuming we should stop TTC this cycle since I could become pregnant and then have the anesthetic without realizing I was pregnant but I just wanted to get feedback before I go to my consultation today.

Edit: Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the anesthesia would have any longterm effects on TTC?

Re: TTC before colonoscopy?

  • I hadn't thought of that.  I will bring that up today.  My referring GP acted like it wouldn't affect TTC at all, but it just makes me paranoid.

  • I had a colonoscopy last sept I think. I didn't stop TTC and even got a BFP that month but it was a CP. I doubt it had anything to do with the colonoscopy. Endless I have a BFP i do any kind of test and I never stop any TTC for any test.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • I agree with @Pintobean39, I have had so many tests and medical appointments in the past year and a half.  I don't put off TTC for any test, nor do I put off tests for TTC.  I figure I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.  Your health first.  Everything else in the world is secondary.

  • Keep TTCing.  Your doctor is correct, your baby won't be impacted so early in the pregnancy.  Remember that the embryo doesn't even implant until a week or longer after ovulation, and does not share your blood supply for weeks after that (as PP mentioned).  If you were to get PG this cycle, the colonoscopy won't have any effect.

Good luck with both TTC and the colonoscopy!
  • Thanks for the advice!

My bitchy pessimistic inner conscious is saying, "Don't worry.  You won't be KU this cycle anyway." (My snark is going full mode since I found out I have to have yet another test done.)

  • I guess the other thing I was worried about was if something serious turned up on the colonoscopy and I ended up being KU.

5 miles ahead of where I probably need to be mentally, but it's the worst-case scenario coming out as it always does.

  • If you can't turn a stick positive the day of your procedure, you wouldn't be pregnant enough for it to affect anything. 2WW =/= KU, if it did there'd be a lot of 'oopsie babies' out there with serious problems. Life goes on as normal until you see that second line.
