STM's - baby proofing ?

Hey y'all,
Now that DD is almost a solid walker, we want to complete our baby proofing. Outlets and a few cabinets have been done, but now she can reach higher drawers and such. Is there a brand you love or does everyone just use the Target ones(safety first?)?
Also looking for a set of baby gates to create a "fenced-in" area, if anyone has any suggestions. We already have a couple of the doorway kind.

We did very minimal baby proofing. Gated stairs, outlet plugs and that's about it. We moved all the cleaning products to a room he cannot access, and otherwise we just used the word "no" a lot when it came to things like opening drawers and cabinets he shouldn't, touching the TV etc.

We didn't want to drill into the drawers, so we only put stuff in that is safe for little ones (washcloths, spatulas, etc). We did find latches for the swing out double cabinets that don't require drilling (they hook around the pull knobs). Our cleaning supplies are behind those. We also installed a gate for the stairs, have covers on the pantry door knob and a couple others, and put plugs in the outlets. We try to keep everything out of reach rather than locked.

With DD1, we were minimal on the babyproofing - our cabinets already had locks from the previous owners, so we got some outlet covers and a gate to put on the stairs and called it a day. DD2 has proven to be quite a bit more difficult. She can open all our cupboards and cabinets, rips off the door knob covers, and moves chairs around to reach things that are up high. She is like a toddler mix of Hulk and MacGuyver. If I could take my whole house and wrap it in bubble wrap I would, but I am sure she would just find a way to break through.

^ I have a feeling DD is going to be like this. Currently "NO!" just kinda makes her laugh at us, until we grab her hand or pull her away from said drawer/whatever, then she gets all pouty. She's in the "testing us" phase I think. And doesn't help that she's an absolute acrobat-monkey-gymnast. This morning she scooted her anywhere chair over next to the silverware drawer and climbed up, ready to pull everything out. Smart little bugger.

We didn't do much with Ds and won't with this one either. The outlets are covered, cleaning products are in a closet with a baby proof knob on it, and Ds dresser is strapped to the wall. That is actually a new one because I read a story of a 3 year old who's not very high dresser fell in her and she died quickly and silently while her parents slept in. Then later heard a story of kids running around and a tv fell in the toddler and killed him. It scared the crap out of me so we strapped his tall dresser down and will do the DVD shelf. We used baby gates on his room so I was able to get a yuck shower in when he was younger with the video monitor on and at the bottom of the stairs but don't need them now that he is almost 2. We will need to do something with our stairs this time around because they are wooden bar ratings on the top that can easily be crawled through and that's a long fall as well as the same in the first few stairs. So once te new baby is crawling those will be blocked off for sure. They scare me major.

We have a summer gate. I love summer everything so I'm bias. Also for drawers, the only ones I could find had to be drilled in,they work great but I hate them. I need a fridge clip now, since he starting opening it. Good luck!

Read the same blogs. When my brother was little, he tried to climb up a dresser and it fell on him. He was lucky, he got out of it with a fractured skull that healed beautifully. Securing any furniture that can topple over is a must.

@DogfishHead that ladies blog is horrible isn't it?? I cried so hard. Then dh and I fought over it because he said Ds wouldn't do that that we always t watching him. I said I don't want to be this parent ever so at happening do get over it lol he still hasn't done the DVD shelf but if it fell it would hit the couch not the ground. I'm still making him do it. I eventually want him to do the hutch on the desk and I want the flat screens done too but he says there is "no way" those tvs r falling over. Ugh he is so difficult.

We didn't do a ton. We have a gate at the top of the stairs. Have replaced all outlets in the house with baby-proof ones that don't require plugs (were changing them anyways), have secured bookcase and dresser in her room. In the kitchen, we don't have anything dangerous in bottom cupboards and have just told her no.

What worked for us was changing the junk drawer (bottom drawer) in the kitchen to be "her drawer" and put measuring cups, plastic spatulas, yogurt containers, etc. in there. She loves being able to go through it and pull stuff out and whenever she goes to open another drawer/cupboard we say "no, is that your drawer?" and she will usually close it and go to her drawer. We also keep her cheerios in a low cupboard so she loves helping get breakfast ready, which is a nice change to having her forbidden from touching anything in the kitchen.
