We just converted my dd's crib into a toddler bed on Sunday. Sunday night I had to spend some extra time soothing her to sleep, but once she fell asleep she was OK. Last night was horrible. It took me almost 2 hours to get her to go to sleep. Then she woke up at 2 AM and screamed for hours. Nothing I tried worked. Any advice? I'm exhausted and short tempered today! How do I make tonight go better than last night?
Re: Transition to toddler bed?
How do you normally put her to sleep? Do you just do your routine and leave her in bed awake?
We went straight to a toddler bed and skipped the crib toddler bed since we had another baby for the crib. We put a gate at her door and left the door partially open. We sat by the door and everytime, she got out of bed, we put her back in. It took a few nights of this and now she stays so we shut the door and took the gate away. She moved to a toddler bed at 22 months.
What about taking her and picking out some pretty new sheets for her bed or a special doll or stuffed animal to sleep with. Luckily my dd has a blankie and will pretty much sleep in any bed if she has it.
I would stick with it and it will get better. Taking away my dd's paci was 2 weeks of hell but then she was fine.
Don't start any new bad habits though. If you normally put her to bed awake, don't start staying with her until she is asleep. She will start to expect that. Good luck.
crib tent. dd1 climbed out so many times, but she LOVES LOVES her crib tent. she likes to shut it and its like her own little domain. she is not ready for a bed yet (way too sneaky lol) and this is the best option so she won't hurt herself. we made if fun like she was sleeping in her own "tent" and omg she loves the sneakiness of it.
