  My mom had the shoes you posted and she wears them with peds. A sock would look odd I think. What about converse chuck Taylor's? Still sneakers, but not a running shoe...

  I own two pairs of the dance style PUMA's and get a ton of compliments on them. The styles are called Janine, Takala and Soleil. They have very little bulk, are super comfy, fit to size, and yes, you can actually dance in them.   I have them in a slightly darker leather with more of a purplish trim (instead of orange)...it looks like Zappos no longer has that color combo, but you might be able to find them somewhere.  They're super comfortable and great for casual weekend wear.

  i would also highly recommend any type of merrells. i can wear any of their styles all day and still be comfortable- even their sandals. usually tj maxx and marshall's have great deals on merrells. dr. scholl's also makes some flats with cork soles that are pretty comfortable .

  I love my vegan Toms.  I wore them all around Disneyland (like 10 hours) and still felt pretty good.

  Chucks are my favorite, but have zero support so they are not great for walking a lot. I love the pumas, sperrys and toms that others posted. I love some of the styles by Reef and will definitelybuying some this summer. You have to be careful because most of those mary janes really do look old ladyish and you'd be better off with cute running shoes IMO.
