Uterus - Left or Right

So H and I realized something after our first ultrasound... This baby is on the left side of my uterus... Opposite to its darling sister, who was on the right. Any other 2nd time moms notice a difference? It would be cool if one side ment one gender vs the other

Re: Uterus - Left or Right

  • I found this on Pinterest.  Not sure how credible it is now that I hear you had complete opposite outcomes.  But it says if its on the left its a girl and if its on the right its a boy.  Hmmm... guess we will just have to be patient for the gender reveal to REALLY know for sure...

  • The sex of the baby isnt determined by which side it implants on. I think that has to do with which side you ovulate from. The sex is determined by rhe sperm which has nothing to do with the ute.
This. I'm pretty sure it's mostly positioned to the right or left because of which tube it came rolling out of.

Me: IR-PCOS, elevated DHEAs, low progesterone, weak ovulation  DH: low volume, low T

I do remember coming across a study that said something about the placenta and what side it's on is a possible indicator. Someone shared this study with me... I guess it's a legit study... take what you want from it... could just be something fun to see if it is correct.

Edit- here's a snippet of the article if you can't get it to load

Dramatic differences were detected in chorionic villi / placental location according to gender. 97.2% of the male fetuses had a chorionic villi/placenta location on the right side of the uterus whereas, 2.4% had a chorionic villi/placenta location to the left of the uterus. On the other hand 97.5% of female fetuses had a chorionic villi/placenta location to the left of the uterus whereas, 2.7% had their chorionic villi/placenta location to the right side of the uterus.127 cases were found to involve bicornuate uteri with single foetuses, most male fetuses were located in the right horn of the uterus and showed right placental laterality (70%). Most female fetuses 59% on the other hand, were located in the left horn and showed left laterality (59%).Moreover, most of the males located in the left horn exhibited right laterality (89%). Also most females located in right horn exhibited left laterality (976.4%). In addition this research indicated that there was a possible link between renal pyelectasis and placental location, and it might be used as a genetic soft marker.

    Conclusion
Ramzi’s method is using placenta /chorionic villi location as a marker for fetal gender detection at 6 weeks gestation was found to be highly reliable. This method correctly predicts the fetus gender in 97.2% of males and 97.5% of females early in the first trimester. And it might be helpful to use as a genetic soft marker in relation with fetal pyelectasis.

  • From what I remember on Ramzi's theory, it was self-published. If the author doesn't have the confidence in his own work to submit it for peer review, I'm not putting any stock in that study. Just my 2 cents.

ahh so this is good to know! lol I didn't believe it. I just thought it would be something fun to compare. Although with the study bicorn. uteruses don't have a pattern so it wouldn't apply to me.

I'm not saying it's not something to have fun with. Go, have funs. But, don't be too upset when you've convinced yourself it's a boy for 10+ weeks & then find out otherwise.

ETA: Not saying that's what OP or anyone else in this thread is doing, but someone will.

  • My SO has already convinced himself that it is going to be a boy and we haven't even had our first appointment yet.  Silly!! I am going to laugh so hard if it turns out to be a girl. I know he won't be "disappointed" either way, but it is going to kind of put a damper on his plans lol

  • I don't really know. Last time I ovulated left side and had a left side placenta, and had a boy. I'm pretty sure I ovulated left side again, so we will see! 50/50 chance, lol.
