For those of you who have older LOs and don't have any food allergies yourself (or dads) did LO develop any? If so, when did you start feeding solids? I'm genuinely curious because it seems that since food allergies are mostly hereditary, it would mean that the newest guidelines are a bunch of hooey. Yes? No? Do I have it backwards somehow? Educate me!
Re: S/O starting solids & food allergies
I have a slight allergy to tomatoes. If I eat too much I just get an upset stomach for a few hours. Nothing major, no vomiting or diarrhea, just don't feel great. My dad and brother are also allergic to them. I was FF.
DH and I are both lactose intolerant. We can both eat certain amounts and have certain dairy products that trigger it worse than others.
DS1 has no food allergies and is not showing any signs of lactose intolerance. We started him on solids (rice) at 4 months. He was also on soy formula due to his reflux for the first 7 months then we switched over to dairy after he outgrew his reflux to see if he was lactose intolerant or if all his issues were reflux (they were).
Have not started any solids with DS2 yet (he's only 3 months).
If you are referring to my response, I was talking about my allergy and intolerance relating to DS1. I understand the whole concept of the allergies and when solids were started (truly not being snarky if this sounded that way).
I'm so confused... Lol I thought the newest research suggested 4 - 6 months. I'll have to do some non-bump investigating.
It says: "The introduction of solid foods should not be delayed beyond 4 to 6 months of age."
It also says that introducing potentially-allergenic foods while continuing to breastfeed may reduce your LO's allergenic response to that food in the future.
