Baby Clothing

How much of it are you saving for future children? I have a ridiculous amount of clothing (95% of it is gifts) and I've been saving it all. I'm running out of room so I'm wondering what you all are doing or have done if you're on your last baby. Thanks!

Re: Baby Clothing

  • I did save it all. I agree - the space it takes up is stupid! I did start using ziploc storage bags which helps. You vaccum out the air and it's waterproof. Now it feels great to sell it as DS2 outgrows it!! :D

  • I'm saving. Very little of our is gender neutral. We are thinking about one more. If it's a girl we'll have to sell everything, but if it's a boy we'll be set.
  • We kept all of ours. We've reused the gender neutral clothes (minimal) and most towels, blankets, etc. We stored all of ours in large Rubbermaid bins and I labeled them all by size, season, and item. It made it a lot easier to pull out items we could reuse and then figure out what we could donate or sell. We stacked ours in our attic and basement. We reused all baby gear and car seat. Those took up the most storage in our basement. It was a pain to store it all, but it saved us a lot when DD was born. If we had another boy, we would have been able to reuse almost 100% as they were born in the same season.

I consigned a ton of clothes and stuff this past Fall and made a good bit of money. Definitely worth the storage and organization.

Allll this except we did have a second boy.

  • I've saved all of DD's. She's got a shit ton of rubbermaid bins in our garage. I'm hanging on to this little guy's stuff, too. Some of which was hand-me-downs and I'll return to their owner, but he rest is staying. We may try for one more so hopefully the seasons match up ;)

  • We're keeping all the clothes in case we have another boy. If we end up having a girl next then I'll sell what I don't want to keep of the boy stuff. I've already started putting his "first" onesies in his little memory box I have for him :)

  • I saved the clothes I like and would reuse or that have special meaning. A lot of k's clothes were gifts or hand me downs so anything extra got passed down to my brother whose gf is due in Feb. I am trying to get rid of most of it.

  • I'm having a big dilemma, like you we have a ton of clothes most gifts and hand me downs. Right now everything is in boxes by size, but I didn't separate out the gender neutral stuff and probably should have. My BFF and SIL are both pregnant right now and I feel like if they have girls I should offer my stuff (BFF would have given me her boy stuff is we had a boy), but I don't want to give away the stuff I like. God willing we will have more kids so I'm tempted to keep everything but feel guilty about not paying it forward.

  • We received so many clothes as gifts and hand-me-downs. I've saved all the clothes I purchased, and much of the other stuff. I personally prefer 1-piece items (onesies, footed sleepers, footless rompers) for little babies so I got rid of a lot of the shirt/pants combos that we had. Basically only saved stuff I really liked. I may give some away to a girlfriend due this spring if she has a girl. Otherwise I'll save it until we have our next one. All the baby gear is gender neutral, we will save it for the next one.

We got rid of everything but the coming home outfit and christening gown after DS1 thinking we would not be having more children.

Honestly, clothing was the easiest and least expensive to replace. I probably spent $20 per size at garage sales until we hit 12 months and realized we needed more shirts (I didn't expect him to get to this size for several more months). Still didn't spend more than $50 to fill in the gaps for 12 and 18 month shirts.

Now as DS1 outgrows stuff, we will save 1 Rubbermaid bin per size. MIL loves to garage sale as much as we do so we can fill in any gaps as things wear out.

The 18 gallon totes fit pretty much an entire wardrobe in the bigger sizes like 2T and up.

Everything DS2 has outgrown has already left my house.
  • I have all of DS1's stuff stored in rubbermaids and so far the stuff the DS2 has outgrown I put back into the rubbermaids to restore them. DH says we're done having kids but I am holding onto hope for a third, but I know that won't happen :( We were team green so everything is gender neutral anyway. When I get my head around two and through I'll sell everything in lots of 6 months at a time size wise on a local swap site that is really good.
