July 2014 Moms

Not asking enough Qs?

I just got back from seeing OB and while the baby is perfectly healthy (hurray!) I always walk away feeling I should have asked more questions.

I've been relatively symptom free, read everything I can, and really like my OB who takes the time to answer what few questions I have.

Does anyone else feel this way? Maybe I'll have a stack of questions the closer July gets.

I don't know my doctor's opinion on any of the pregnancy hot topics. I have no idea how he feels about wine, sushi, lunchmeat, fitness. None of it. I never asked, and he never offers it. This is my second pregnancy with him, I adore him, and we still haven't discussed it. I assume we share the philosophies on pregnancy, but I really don't know. LOL. If I do ask a question, he answers all of them and spends ample time with me. I just don't ask often.

    You're not alone.

Yes I feel this way too. I realized that I do have questions but I don't ask them because I think it's too early. They're mostly delivery related questions. After the last one I started writing things down in the notes section of my iPhone because a month between appointments is a long time to hold something in my pregnancy brain.
I know. I want to be like soooo how soon can we schedule this c-section? And I'm only 15 weeks.

  • Thanks ladies. Some days I feel like I've lost my mind and have no clue what I'm doing. Glad I have you guys to keep me in check :D

  • I never had many questions with DS. At my intake appointment the nurse practitioner sat me down went over all the dos and donts of pregnancy, gave us a book that was full of information, and a couple other handouts for various things that come up during pregnancy. With all the initial info they gave me there wasn't much I had to ask about that wasn't already covered. I wouldn't worry about the lack questions.

  • I didn't have too many questions when I was pregnant and I really don't have too many now. Any questions I think of, I usually consult the internet before my appointment rolls around.

  • I had way more questions towards the end than in the beginning. Very normal :)

  • The only thing I asked today was why the nurse made me sound like I lost my magic pee cup even though I tried to tell her that they never gave me my own pee cup!  I came in with a tiny jelly jar of urine.  She insisted I must have lost the one they gave me at the first appointment.  InecessaryOT A STINKIN' PEE CUP, LADY!!!

Omg, I strongly dislike the nurse in my OB's office. She's very snippy and always reminds me "it's ok to lose weight during pregnancy." Yes, lady, I know because you've told me every time I've had an appt! I've gained 1 lb. Lay off! She also yelled at me for not automatically peeing in a cup at my second appt. Well, if you had told me that was necessary, I would've done it. Thank goodness I love my OB.

  • I just ask what pertains to health and such- like if my preg. was symptom free, I'd have a lot less to say.  Nothing on hot topics, that's what the internet is for! Though I DID ask for advice on genetic testing and what if DH wasn't in agreement with me...but he was, though at one point he wasn't. though I wouldn't have asked all the OB's just this one, a female that is older, and happened to have some experience with it all, actually.

  • I always leave with that feeling. I started keeping a list on my phone when I think of something, but by the time the appointment hits, I never feel like any questions are worth asking.

    Definitely normal.

  • The only question I asked was with my first before I went to Mexico in first tri, and I only asked if there was anything to avoid besides the water and their awesome soft cheese they put on everything. You definitely aren't alone in not asking questions.
  • I almost never have any questions, and I think I always have a concerned expression when I go in, because he always tries to be reassuring to me- and honestly, when it comes to LO, I'm always a bit on edge. The last time I was there, the only thing I could really choke out was "I have a question-- um. Not really a question... I... Don't know anything about where I'm delivering. I've only been in the main hospital for my ultrasound. I don't...know what to expect. What the rooms are like. I just.." And I always sound like that. Like I never know what I'm trying to say. But he got the message and said that they will give me a walk through if it would make me feel comfortable. So... There's that, I guess...

  • Most questions will be toward the end.  I don't think I asked anything at all until I was toward the very end of my pregnancy.  Especially when I passed my due date.
