SS Question: stabbing pain in lower right side if lifting

So...I noticed early on that I would get a pain in my lower right side if I stood up too fast or moved funny or picked up my 30 lbs. toddler with our taking the time to really concentrate on what I'm doing. I mentioned it at my last appt and he seemed convinced that it was RLP triggered by lifting wrong. It's not. He said if it was Rlp I could get it to stop by applying counter pressure, and that does nothing.

I was just stupid and picked C up from Where I was sitting in the bed. It was like getting stabbed in the side with a poker. DH got all worried. I'm calling the ob tomorrow, but other than being careful how I pick up my kid, any ideas/suggestions? The pain is just about in the crease where my leg meets my side.

  • :( it could be pain related to other pelvic floor muscles (besides your round ligaments) google a picture of all the muscles in the pelvis and see if you can kind of pinpoint where it's coming from. If it only hurts when lifting it definitely sounds muscle related. If it was a hernia or something more serious I think you'd probably be in a lot more pain just with regular movements. Ask your doctor if you can get a referral for physical therapy. I go twice a week and have learned so much about strengthening all those muscles and the best ways to move/do things to avoid injury/pain.

  • I've been getting that too, especially when I stretch in the morning or go from sitting down to standing up too quickly. I asked my midwife about it and she told me it was Round Ligament Pain which is normal. She RLP was the worst between weeks 18-22.

  • I get it too, sometimes when I pick up my daughter and sometimes when I turn too quickly. I always guessed RLP.

  • I called this morning per DH's urging.  They think it's just RLP and have told me to be careful when changing positions, to use good body mechanics when lifting, and to wear my pregnant belly support belt.  Awesome.  So...I guess I lived with it!  Thanks for all the input!
