Is the mamaRoo worth it?

Hi ladies,

I ventured to BRU last night to check out some items in person instead of on the net. Overwhelming! Anyways- I'm leaning towards the mamaRoo in place of swing and bouncer but wanted to know if anyone has one or knows someone that does? They are a little pricey so I just want to get an idea if I'm wasting my money or if it's really a lifesaver! Thoughts? Trying to keep unnecessary baby stuff minimal in our little house!

  • I feel you. I went to bRu last weekend and was overwhelmed too. I saw the mamaroo too. I figured maybe I will put it on my registry and if I get one great if not no biggy since I can't afford it.

I was just talking to some one from a baby store about strollers and car seats yesterday that is making me rethink my choice and this would mean my stroller is more expensive. Oh fun!!! Lol

  • In my opinion it so is! My grandparents got one for me and my sister when we were both pregnant in 2011. My son loved it. Best invention ever. My sister used hers again with my second niece.

  • I am going to buy it instead of a
Swing and bouncer- in my mind I have justified the price by it combining 2 items I would otherwise want to get. Hopefully getting it from shower if not I will buy it:) it looks soooo comfy! Can't wait to put baby in it!
  • While I read the thread that talked all about the Mamaroo, and therefore put it on my registry, talking with friends who have bought it I changed my mind. The friends I spoke with said their babies didn't love it and they ended up buying a separate swing. I took it off my registry and ended up going with a Graco swing / bouncer in one.

I know each person / baby is different but there are regular swings / bouncers that are combined and less than the Mamaroo. Just sharing in case this info helps.

  • I saw that thing Saturday and was super impressed. Don't know if it is something that I would register for though...in the off chance that the baby didn't like it?

  • We added this to our registry after we saw it in action at BRU. I gotta be honest -- I wish they made a grownup version. I would buy that thing in a heartbeat.

If figure if someone wants to be generous, we will happily accept it as a shower gift. If not, we'll probably look for a used one. A quick search of Craigslist showed me a bunch for sale in teh $100 range. I'm not a fan of buying used for some items -- but these look like they'd be easy to clean off so I'm not worried about sanitation/hygiene issues.

  • We are going with the rockaRoo instead of the mamaRoo but only because I won one.  Otherwise we would not be purchasing a second swing since we still have the one DD used.

  • What's the difference between the mammaroo and the rockaroo? The listing on Amazon made them sound pretty darn identical unless I missed something obvious due to my raging case of baby brain.

  • I'm going to be annoying and say that you'll never know it's worth it until it's too late, lol.  I mean, some swings/bouncers, etc are lifesavers with some babies and other babies can't stand to be in them.

We lucked out and were able to borrow an expensive swing, a bouncy chair, a RnP, and a few other things from family and friends.  DD only liked the bouncy chair.  She seriously hated the swing and the RnP and I'm SO GLAD I didn't spend money buying either one.  I returned them to their owners and they got more use with their next kids so it worked great for everyone.  We kept the bouncy seat around and got a ton of use out of it.  All that being said, I hestiate to buy the more expensive items because I'd be so annoyed if LO ends up not liking it.

My understanding is that the mamaroo has more motions that it is capable of and the rockaroo just rocks like a rocking horse.  Also the rockaroo is lighter.

I couldn't agree more. with DD, I was hesitant to buy all this stuff...we borrowed a swing vs. spending $150 on one. I'm glad we did because we got maybe a month's use out of it? She was just all set with the motion. Personally, even though we could afford an item like this, I was hesitant to unload too much money on stuff that had shorter shelf lives..I feel like most of our baby gear (swing, bouncy, RNP) were put away at 4 months once she started to hold her head up, roll over etc...but.all babies are different. Just save your boxes and receipts!
  • What is a swing called that moves front to back and side to side? I thought there was a specific name, but I can't remember! (And I am working on my registry! Help!)
