Help with which temp to use

For some reason I can't link my chart with iPad. Anyway, I usually temp at 5 or 6am, but last night woke up at 2am (went to sleep at 10) very warm and temped incase I couldn't fall back to sleep. It wa 98.66 and when I temped again at 4:45, I temped 97.57. I am usually around 97.5, and doubt I o'd. CD 29 after mirena removal and still - opk's. Which temp would you use? I'm going to try my pc and link my chart, too.

Re: Help with which temp to use

  • Huh...I'd use the 97.57 assuming you slept through to 4:45 without waking again...

Were you able to fall back to sleep right away at 2 after you woke up? If so I would probably use the 97.57

  • I usually say to take the first temp, but since I'm guessing you got enough sleep before the second one, you should probably go with that one.
Side note: Ever since I started temping, I'm more aware of how much I wake up during the night. No wonder I've always been tired in the morning.

  • Thanks! I did get back to sleep, but maybe only a little over two hours. I still can't figure out the saggy, and tried through my laptop. I've never had trouble with this before. So strange!

  • Here is something from FF:

Is it more important to take my temperature at the same time every day or after at least three hours of sleep?

Ideally, you will be able to take your temperature at both the same time and after at least three hours of sleep, but sometimes this is not possible. Do your best to meet the ideal as closely as possible. Whether or not you will have a more accurate temperature after sleeping the longest or at your usual wake-up time varies depending on your own unique metabolism. You will only really know after you have charted for several cycles and have experimented a little bit.

I've come to realize that for me, even if I only sleep 1.5-2 hrs after waking up in the middle of the night, as long as I take my temp at the same time each morning, I get the most accurate reading. If I wake up in the middle of the night I normally take my temperature then and again at 6 am (normal temp time) and this is how I've come to realize that my 6 am temp is always more accurate than going back to sleep for another 3 hours or using the earlier temp.
