Delilah's Birth Story (PIP)

Short version: Delilah Carys was born January 12th at 38W +6 at 9:36am. She weighed 9lbs 9oz and was 21 inches long.

Sorry in advance for any spelling or grammar mistakes.

Long version: I lost part of my MP Friday morning and got overly excited that it might be labor day. It wasn't. I was a bit upset to wake up Saturday morning still pregnant. We had no plans for the day and hung out at home. SO went to bed Saturday around 11pm. I stayed up checking FB, emailing my mom etc. At 1am I started having irregular contractions. I went to lay down thinking I'd better get some sleep just in case. Instead, I was laying there timing contractions. By 2am they were 5-7 minutes apart. I woke up SO and called my oldest DD who was spending the night at a friends house. SO went and picked her up so that she could watch her siblings while we went to the hospital.

By 4am my contractions were 3-4 minutes apart. SO was ready to go to the hospital but I wanted to labor at home as long as possible. At 5:30am I agreed I was ready for the hospital. When we arrived in triage the RN hooked me up to the monitor to check baby's heart rate/ contractions. She left to check on another patient. I felt like I was leaking and told SO either my water was breaking or I was peeing myself. All the sudden there was a huge gush and water was dripping off the bed onto the floor. SO called for the nurse who said there was light meconium. She checked me and I was 5cm 100% effaced.

I was moved to our L&D room. I spent an hour contracting in the bed while SO feed me ice chips and continuously made sure I had a cold wet washcloth on my forehead and neck. When I was checked again I was 6-7cm and the RN asked if I would like to try the birthing ball. I did. By this point I was trying to talk myself out of getting an epidural while using breathing techniques. At 9am the RN suggested I climb back up into the bed to be checked, I was at 9cm. My room quickly filled up with doctors and nurses as I was ready to push. After 5 minutes of pushing, and with the doctors help because her shoulder was stuck, Delilah was born. She was immediately taken to the warmer since there was light meconium when my water broke. I was bleeding heavily and SO didn't want to leave me but I urged him to be with the baby to make sure she was ok. I ended up staying in the L&D room for an extra hour because I lost so much blood. Baby and I got to do skin to skin and she nursed well before we were moved to recovery. Everyone is doing great!

Delilah is 2 weeks old today. Here's our hospital pics.
