PCOS and due date

I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and my cycles are usually 42 days apart. Im 40w2days pregnant (due date jan 24) and im just now wondering if my due date could be pretty off because my cycles are so off. I think the wheel thingy my doctor used to estimate my due date was prob based on a normal 28 day cycle. I did my own calculations online and 2 websites said february 7!! Anyone know about PCOS and due dates? Pls help, i dont want to be pregnant for another 12 days!!

Re: PCOS and due date

  • Did they do a Ultrasound? They should of verified your dates by US. So if the US was not terribly off per your dates, they would of kept that date.
    BFP #1 (7/13/12) MC (8/14) 9 weeks. D & C 8/17.
BFP #2 (5/18/13) due 1/26/14. Grow baby grow!
    Its a surprise! Team green!

  • I was just reading about this on a different site. OBs base due dates on a 28 day cycle. What is important for dating though is when you ovulated.

It's worth bringing up to your doctor if you haven't already. Ultrasounds are notoriously inaccurate for dating purposes by a week or more, unless you had one done around 6 or 7 weeks where the margin of error is only a few days.

  • Lurker here, but I went through something similar with this pregnancy, only for us it was in the opposite direction (moving due date up two weeks).  I have endometriosis and typically have 35-37 day cycles (even on bc).  Our OB has changed my due date 3 times based on US/growth scans.  Ultimately I think it's that everyone's pregnancy and everyone's LO grows at different rates.  Then there's also the new thinking of "Due Dates" as a window of time to be a anywhere from weeks 38-42.  Along those same lines, your body and your LO's growth rate may not match up exactly.
  • My older sister stated this theory as fact to me a few days ago.  She always had very short cycles and both her kids arrived early.  My other sister has long cycles and she went two weeks late.  My cycles, prior to birth control, were always longer as well.  Here I am at 40w5d and waiting patiently.  There may be something to it but then again, it could be just coincidence.

  • I have PCOS, but to the point where I only have 2-3 cycles in a year typically.  For both pregnancies as soon as I found out I was pregnant (around 8-9weeks) I contacted my midwife and got in for a dating U/S since I had no idea at that point that I was 8-9 weeks.  My due dates have always been calculated based just off of that dating U/S since typically my LMP would be 4-6 months prior.

  • My cycles are closer to 35 days than 28 and since we used ovulation test strips this time, I have a good idea of what day I actually ovulated so my due date was based on that. If we'd gone by my last period date, Abel would have been almost 41 weeks instead of 39 weeks 5 days. It's sounds likely from your post that you still have a ways to go so you may want to mention this to your doctor. Sorry, I know that's probably not what you want to hear right now!
