A little registry help?

I haven't posted in awhile, I've just been lurking about. We have had ALOT of issues. Soooooo... I didn't think I was having baby shower because no one had mentioned anything to me so I haven't been worrying about this but my sister in law just informed me yesterday that I would in fact be having one and that it will be Feb 22nd. I'm a little upset because I live 11.5 hours away from her and the rest of our family and plus I work and she just text me and tells, not asks, me to be in Arkansas in less than a month. I'm high risk and technically supposed to be on tentative bed rest and I'm not supposed to drive, she knows all this but I guess it doesn't matter and my husband and I could really use a baby shower so I guess that means I don't really have right to be upset...it's just a huge stressor because we don't have the money for that trip and for me to take off any work now that I've had to limit my work days so much and no one even asked me when would be an okay time for me..oh well. Oh wow I didn't intend to rant, I apologize. But my whole reason for this post was to ask advice or for a tentative list on what to put on a register??? I really don't have a clue and she needs me to have it done by next weekend.. Or is there a list online somewhere I could get a good idea?

  • There are plenty of lists online if you google it.  And if you register at BRU, they'll give you a suggestion list which is also available on your registry online so you can add stuff from their website.

That said, if I was high risk and on bed rest, there's no way I'd be traveling 11 1/2 hours for a shower, no matter how badly I wanted to have one.
  • I'm hoping everyone will be understanding... I just really don't want her drama over I would try but... She's one of those people that if things don't go her way then she blows up and makes a big deal out of it and I really can't handle any of that right now... I know that sounds pitiful but I'm doing my best to just tolerate her bossing me around as long as I can..
Thank you for the suggestions. I have an appointment next week and I plan to ask my midwife if she thinks I can do it, if not then I figure I'll have a lot more backing when I tell her I can make the drive... I really don't even want to go, but I can't stomach coming off as ungrateful..
  • As others have suggested, Lucie's List is awesome. Definitely check it out!

And i'll also echo PPers -- please don't feel as if you MUST take time off and travel for this shower, especially if it's against your practioner's advice. No shower (or pushy family member) is worth risking your health or the health of your baby!
