Baby shower tomorrow and I'm on partial bed rest

So I was in L&D a week ago for contractions 2 minutes apart and appeared to be due to dehydration. However I have been experiencing severe back pain and contractions daily (sometimes several an hour and sometimes hours apart). My doctor has requested my work allow me to work from home for the remainder of my pregnancy (which they have agreed to) so that I don't have to drive and can stay off my feet as much as possible. It was either that or go out on STD and take time away from after I give birth which I didn't really want to do if I didn't have to. Anyway, I have pretty much been home bound since being in L&D and if I'm on my feet for more than 15-20 minutes I start feeling pelvic pressure and contractions. Tomorrow is my shower and it's scheduled for 4 hours. I'm worried that I won't be able to make it that long unless I'm sitting down the entire time. There are many people coming (DH's extended family and family friends) that I have not seen in a while. I would love to be able to "make the rounds" and see everybody but I don't know if I will be up for it. At the same time I don't want to offend anyone by just sitting in one spot the whole time and expecting everyone to come to me in some sort of receiving line or something. Maybe I'm being paranoid about it but what would you ladies do/how would you handle the situation?

Edited because I hit the stupid post button too soon.

  • I don't see a problem with you sitting for the great majority of the time.  I imagine your guests would understand.

  • If anyone asks questions just tell them you're doctor wants you on rest for the safety of the baby and yourself. If they don't understand that, they don't matter.
  • I was on bed rest too for my shower. If they aren't understanding then they are assholes.

  • You will be fine to sit and have them come to you. The person throwing it should announce you have been put on bed rest, so their is no question as to why you are not "making rounds" if people still arent okay with you sitting, they aren't good enough friends to be there..

  • I was in the same boat and people totally understood! Have fun!

  • Let them come to you and sit for the shower.
