I have had this same problem and teach too. I get adjusted by a chiropractor as needed, sit more often, stretch occasionally, and also wear Keens. They worked the best compared to other shoes for both of my pregnancies.
I'm not currently teaching, but I was when I was pregnant with both DD's. I had back pain even before I got pregnant with either of them, and I found that Dansko clogs realllllyyyy helped. They took my feet about a week to adjust to, but they made ALL the difference in the world after. They can be pretty pricey $120-$150, but a lot of outlet-type shoe warehouse stores sell them at discounted rates (usually $60-$80). They also last forever! You really get what you pay for.
I am also a teacher and my back has been bothering me as well as I have a herniated disc in my lower back. I went to a store yesterday and she recommended the
Best Cradle It eases back pain while supporting your baby during pregnancy.
I just bought one and used it yesterday and it made my back feel so much better. Will be wearing it tomorrow to work to see how it is. I paid 70 bucks should have waited but if it works I will take it. The lady said that the OBs around here all recommend it.

I had excrutiating pain on my lower right side of my back last night. Kept me awake most of the night. I'm an esthetician and am on my feet all day! Tylenol and TLC from hubby and I finally fell asleep.
It sounds like the back pain is common with teachers who are on their feet all day. I also have been having it on the lower right side. I try to wear comfy shoes everyday...either clogs like danskos or flats which are comfy but not very supportive. I'm tempted to wear sneakers but I don't think they will look very nice with my dress pants lol. I notice that the back pain is worse when I'm in bed trying to sleep. I've been icing it every night but it still aches. Do you have any tricks for easing the pain at night?
@CharSamm I never thought of orthopedic inserts. That's a great idea. I might give in and go with the sneakers too. I sit in my comfy desk chair whenever I can, and I might start bringing an icepack to work to see if it helps.
Re: Back pain
I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.
@bebemac, I may have to try those out. Thanks!
