Hi! My husband and I are expecting our 1st in February and will be moving to the area in March/April. I don't know much about the area and looking for some guidance. Any suburbs or neighborhoods you'd suggest or advise to steer clear of? Any advice to someone in my position in general...?! Anyone moved with a newborn? Thanks ladies :)

Re: Relocating to the Columbus area- advice!?

  • There are a lot of nice areas of Columbus - what part of town will you and DH be working?

I'm partial to the Northwest part of the city (Upper Arlington, Grandview, Dublin, Worthington, Clintonville) just because that's what I'm most familiar with.

I've never moved with a newborn, so no advice there - but good luck!

  • Thanks for the reply @Par13. He would be working in west Columbus, near Hilliard, so some if the areas you listed are places I've been looking- which makes me feel much better! I've been there once (for a weekend) and was in the short north so I didn't get to seeing else. Are any of these areas walkable at all or more convenient (grocery/shops etc) to get around? Thanks again!!

We are able to walk to restaurants, parks, the grocery store, & schools where we live (UA) and Grandview is really walkable too. Worthington, Clintonville, and Dublin are larger towns but could be walkable depending on the part of town you move into.

I also lived in an apartment in Hilliard for a year (8 years ago - yikes, I'm getting old!) and it's a nice area. It was a bit too far from downtown for my liking. Hilliard isn't very walkable though, IMO but they do have some running/biking trails.

  • I second @Par13 suggestions. For most of the time I've been in Columbus I've been in the NW side and I love it. I'd stay clear of the west side and the east side. I have family in Gahanna and that is another nice suburb. I've never moved with a NB but good luck!
  • If you want reasonably priced id go with Hilliard if you want nice and a little more pricey I'd go with Dublin. If you want more countryish plain city is really nice!

I have a Daughter born 2/26/2013. She is pretty much amazing!

  • Born and raised in UA. We love it here. The school system is fantastic and is centrally located and an easy drive to downtown, Easton, Polaris, etc. There are a ton of parks that are in waking distance, restaurants, libraries... We ride our bikes everywhere :) what a wonderful place to be relocated! I'm very jealous as my husband has been relocated and we're moving in July to Minneapolis. Good luck!! If you need a pediatrician recommendation don't hesitate to PM me. We love our doctor!
  • Thanks guys. Sounds like UA has exactly what were looking for!! Hopefully we can find a place that works in the area!
  • We're selling our house in May!! ;)
