Nursing Bra Question

I'll be delivering in a few weeks, and I'm trying to figure out what size of nursing bras/camisoles to buy, and I'm having trouble figuring out what size to get. All my current bras are underwire, which I know is a no-no, so I need to at least have a couple on hand to start, even though the size will change again when my milk comes in.

My breasts really haven't gotten all that much bigger during pregnancy - I started as a 32-barely B, and although my old bras still fit, i'm probably more accurately a 34-B now. Would you recommend getting 34B nursing bras? Or is it really likely that I'll get enough bigger to need 34C when my milk comes in?

Thanks for any advice!

Re: Nursing Bra Question

  • Have you tried the sleep bras from Motherhood Maternity? One is a triangle bra that you push the cup aside to nurse. The other is more like a sports bra with the clips to pull down while nursing. I also find regular soft cup bras easy to just pull down. I often skip wearing a bra at home.

Underwire bras aren'tas bad as they're made out to be. The problem is that most women wear the wrong size bra. Get a proper fitting and make sure the underwire fits under your breast. If it is uncomfortable or digging into your breast, that might be a problem. I waited until nursing was established to get underwire bras.

  • Nordstrom will alter any bra to make it a nursing bra, which is what I had to do. They did a more thorough fitting, too. I forgot Target sold nursing bras and tanks-I would choose Target over Motherhood if its an option.

  • I second going to target. You don't want to spend a lot of money because they will get covered with everything. I got some cotton bras that you could could just move to the side from target and they work fabulous when I'm home.

  • I could never wear nursing tanks because I have a large chest. I liked the bravado body silk on the beginning, because it will stretch and adjust as your milk comes in. It's very comfortable, and I still wear them when home.

  • Target all the way!! And I agree on waiting until you get your milk in and all that. You never know how big you'll end up getting.
  • Like PPs said, you won't really know until you're there. Your rib cage might readjust and your breasts will probably increase in size, even after your milk supply is regulated.

  • I basically live in the motherhood maternity sports double clip down bras. They are comfortable enough to wear around the house all day and sleep in yet they have enough structure to look good under clothes too even without an underwire. I am about the same size as you and mine didn't change enough to go up a size except around my ribs like you said. Even at my most engorged they fit well because they aren't cups you can spill out of. I would suggest investing in one now (you could buy the size that fits you today and one up and don't take the tag off- then you will have it if you need it or can exchange it for an extra in the correct size) I know I didn't want to get out to the mall right away and I didn't feel comfortable in just a nursing tank when visitors came by.
