Gliders/rockers

This might be a stupid question, but if you're having twins, do you have 2 rockers in the nursery? Or if you had the option, would you?

The baby room is quite large so I'm not worried about space. And I found a really nice rocker for a ridiculously low price, so that's the only reason I'm even thinking about 2.

Is that too much?

Re: Gliders/rockers

  • I had a big la-z-boy type (different brand, same idea) recliner/rocker and that worked great. The small, wooden arm gliders would be far less practical IMO. You don't need 2 rockers.

  • Well, I have an amazing husband who gets up with me in the middle of the night to help feed. (We bottle feed formula, we don't breast feed)  We have 2 rockers in our nursery so if both boys feed at the same time we can both be up and feeding together.  Ours are the wooden rockers.  One is a glider rocker, the other is the "old style" with added pads.  My only vice is that the arms don't have padding, but I'm not in there for hours on end, it's for 20 minutes and we each place a pillow under our arm to elevate the baby better, and to ease our arms a bit.  We do have a smaller nursery, so size did matter to us, but it works very well.
If during the day both babies are fussy, we do have a large recliner in the living room that the babies and I all fit together in, so it's not like I'm stuck with only the wooden rockers.
That's my opinion, if your husband is willing and able to get up with you to help feed during the night, get 2 chairs.  If he's unable to, get one large comfy chair.

Thanks for this, that's helpful. Husband will definitely be getting up to help since I have a health issue where I can't get too sleep deprived (ha!).

Since we already have one of the wooden ones from DS1, we might just get 1 new nicer one and keep the old one on there too. DH gets the old obviously!

  • If both you and hubby are going to be getting up to feed them and the gliders are a great price I'd get two! But if just you are going to be BFing then I'd get one big, comfy one.

  • The night feeds are a short stage. If you're looking long term you'll want something you can comfortably hold 2 babies in while you read or sing/talk, etc. My DH helped with night feeds, but I did a lot of day feedings by myself in their room, esp the first morning feed. If you already have a 2nd chair that's cool. Totally use it. I'd just hate for you to buy 2 small chairs and then a year later have 2 chairs you don't want anymore. You'll get a lot more use out of a bigger one. I'd get a la-z-boy and a couch if the room was big enough before I bought 2 small gliders.
  • Everyone does the feeding / sleeping thing a little differently. We have one fully upholstered glider/rocker that I love. We got it when we had the big one. I don't usually bf in it - I prefer I nurse in bed. H gets up with me MOTN and hands me babies and then I wake him to help me put them back.

I use the glider to rock one if needed, sometimes if I bf them individually I'll use it, we also all sit together to read books.

They are almost always fed at the same time, bottle or boob. We use bouncers to tandem bottle feed.
