Pregnant after 35

Introduction and Stroller Question

Hello!  My name is Elizabeth.  I am 37 and carrying my third baby.  I am due at the end of June and so excited about this precious gift!

Quick question...do any of you have experience with the Eddie Bauer TriTrek Travel System Stroller?
We loved our original EB stroller, but it has taken a beating and this baby (and Mommy) deserve something new!

Thanks, in advance.

Re: Introduction and Stroller Question

  • Welcome and Congratulations!

I'm a FTM so I have zero stroller knowledge of any kind; hopefully someone else here can help. You might also try the nursery and baby gear board (link).

    Best wishes!

  • I don't have that stroller. But the Baby Bargins book is a great resource for all baby gear. You could always take a look at the book at the book store so you don't need to buy it for all the info.

  • I don't have experience with it, but checked in out online and it looks very similar to the BOB, which is one of the ones we use. Traveling with the BOB has been super easy, collapses/opens with one hand (I've even done it holding my DS). The differences I see between the BOB and the one you're looking at is yours has smaller wheels (so I would guess it is less for off-roading than the BOB) and less storage underneath (which we utilize a LOT).

    HTH!

  • I am FTM also. I was going to go w a Graco. Went to a baby store yesterday and talked to them plus a few moms that came in. They said the travel systems are not te best and the strollers do my last long.

I want a stroller to go walking with and light hiking on in even roads.

They told me about Baby Jogger and gave me a catalog so I am going to check them out. She said the wheels are what I would want to make sure is good. So I will be looking into this before I make up my mind. Have no idea how much it will cost.

Just thought I would give you another one to look at. Lol just what you need right. The moms I talked to loved this one and said they last and you don't have to replace. So we will see.

    So many choices. Lol

  • FWIW.... FTMs, the biggest thing I would say about wheels is the style of the front wheel. It may be obvious, but I never really noticed it until I used a few different strollers.

Joggers typically have a locked front wheel. Actually, I think this is what defines them as joggers, but I'm not sure about that.  Good for going straight (assuming your stroller is aligned.... my jogger pulls right). Sort of a pain when you are making little adjustments constantly because you have to push down and lift the front wheel.

An articulating wheel(s) allow you to turn without lifting the front of the stroller (think grocery cart).

Some strollers have different wheels so you can go back and forth, some have a locking mechanism so you can change back and forth, and others are one way or the other. Not saying one is better than another, but a consideration for your choice, depending on how you will use the stroller.

  • I was just reading about strollers today (also a FTM), because it dawned on me that definitely need one that I can use for hiking trails, etc. What @rae_dylanzmom wrote echoes what the reviews said about various models - that front wheel thing would never have occurred to me.

Where I live, we are often on hiking trails. The chariot and BOB strollers are the models of choice. Maybe not worth the cost/trouble if your stroller-ing will be in malls and grocery stores, but invaluable if you're on unpaved roads, trails, outside a lot, etc.

The chariot has stroller wheels, a jogger wheel, the stroller itself closes your kid in (good for weather), a front-end attachment to go to your bike (which can be really useful if that's something you'd use). It also has a ski attachment to pull your kid while you xc ski (but none of us really use this one like we thought we would). Lots of options. Pricey.

The BOB has one front wheel that goes back and forth. It is good off-road, but also collapses more easily. I can pop this into the trunk of my car and use it at the grocery store (even has a car seat adjustment so it can be used for your sleeping LO.... this was VERY useful).

Strollers (these two in particular) are pretty easy to find used, and they take a lot of wear and tear, so not something I'd worry about buying second-hand.

(FYI, not sure why I've taken such an interest in this thread, except that it is taking my mind off of the dr's appt I have tomorrow. So thanks for the distraction.)

  • I looked at the BOB but I just cannot justify the expense. Our original Eddie Bauer stroller was great and was not over $300. Thanks for all your opinions. This board is full of nice people!
