I was just reviewing the CDC recommendations for vaccines and realized that in 2013 they changed the requirements for pregnant women; the CDC is now recommending that women receive a Tdap vaccine during
each pregnancy between 27 and 36 weeks with the rationale that it better protects LO until LO can start their Dtap series.
Am I the only one who just realized this? Anyone yet hear from their doctors re: getting their tDap? Anyone getting theirs this pregnancy?
I know I won't be receiving one during this pregnancy as I've already had a serious site reaction before and has been recommended no more tetanus shots until my 10 years are up (which will be in 2019).

Technically, it is the recommendation to get your Tdap every 10 years, always has been as far as I know. The problem is, like gertiebarden said, the pertussis part of it apparently wears off much quicker (I don't know if they're just realizing this, hence the new recommendation?), but there is no separate vaccine or booster for just pertussis.

He also said tdap was only licensed in 2005 so we don't even have long term data available on it. So no one can even say with certainty it doesn't last for ten years. Regardless, within 5 years you are ok.
