I'm sad and excited at the same time

My husband and I felt our baby kick our hands for the first time last night which really makes this feel real. However, I believe maybe because of my previous surgery or just because I am used to feeling so much pain, that part of my stomach is numb. I could feel him kicking my hand but I couldn't feel it internally. The only kicks I feel on a day to day basis is if he connects with intestines which really hurts. So I just feel like I am missing out on even more of the pregnancy than I already have.

Has anyone heard of not being able to feel the kicks in their stomach even when you can clearly feel it on your hand?

I say this with 0 snark, if your internal numbness is surgery related how would we have the same experience? Unless of course we had the same surgery. Is that what you are asking?

I don't know for a fact that it is surgery related just a thought. Just wondering if anyone that has had any medical issues or knows anyone that has had issues if they have heard of that possibly happening. When I introduced myself there were a few girls who said they either knew someone or had an issue themselves.

I have searched online but I'm not coming up with anything and my next dr appointment isn't until the 6th.

Just curious that's all.

In that case, in my personal experience, when I feel her kick on the outside I always feel it inside as well.

It must be because of numbness because I don't understand how you couldn't feel the baby internally if you are feeling baby externally. I hope you don't really feel like you are missing out. Stay positive!

I barely feel her outside, but feel her moving inside a lot. I'm sorry you aren't feeling yours move internally. I would probably speak to my OB about it if I were you. If nothing else they may be able to give you some peace of mind.

I have an anterior placenta so I can't feel too much. I've never felt her from the outside.

I feel baby on the outside often (kicks or punches), and barely feel him internally. Although I do feel some flutters and rolling, never the kicks. A few things factor into this according to my doc...Belly fat, internal scarring, and placental placement. I wouldn't worry.

Not that this is the same, but my husband had surgery about 8 years ago and the entire area of where the surgery was, is numb for him. It's all due to nerve damage I believe... so I guess it's very possible that your surgery could be the reason why you can't feel those kicks internally. I feel like your dr may be able to answer this question better than anyone else.

I've had 2 laparoscopies for endometriosis - both very invasive so I can understand where nerve damage and scar tissue would take place. How long ago did you have your surgeries? My last one was fall 2012.
I was late feeling my babe- it took up til about 20 weeks to signficantly feel the movements. I wouldn't lose hope... As the baby gets bigger you will most likely feel them somewhere on the inside.
