NTTGPR: Recommend a vacation spot in the USA!

edited January 2014 in Trying to Get Pregnant
The Hubs and I are trying to plan a vacation somewhere between March and June, I was thinking Vegas but Idk, I am not very creative. I thought you guys would have some great suggestions that I am not aware of. :) Thanks!

I like all that, haha. I really would like to go somewhere historical more than anything though. A beach would be second top pick.

  • San Diego!
I do love San Diego and California! I contemplated that. I wish Disneyland didn't cost an arm and a leg.

  • Ok, let's forget about the fact that I'm not sure whether the 51st state is actually a part of the US or a territory, or whatever...  and I'm gonna say Puerto Rico for one reason - I believe it has a little something for everyone.  Beaches, shopping, nightlife, culture, casinos, excursions/boats, romance, history, etc.

  • The outer banks in north Carolina are gorgeous. There's plenty of historic sites and lighthouses to go to. The smoky mountains are beautiful as well. We went there for our honeymoon, it's lots of fun.

  • I was going to say Charleston or somewhere in NC--we love Bald Head Island, golf-carts only island off the coast. But then I decided it might be too chilly for when you're planning to go. I love Vegas! A friend also offered up their condo in Siesta Key FL, which is supposed to be one of the best beaches in Florida but I don't know much about it (she says great food, great sand).

  • San Diego, Portland, Seattle (W) OR New York City, Charleston, Savannah, Miami (E)
  • Are there any hobbies or interests you share that might lend themselves to some sort of festival? For example, any interest in ComicCon/DragonCon or the food and wine festival at Epcot? You could look up festivals and plan a trip around that.

If you are into ghosts or historical stuff you could check out New Orleans, St. Augustine, Savannah, etc.

The Florida Keys are beautiful as are beaches on both Florida coasts. The Outer Banks of NC have beautiful beaches too as well as lighthouses and pirate related history.

Charleston is an all around awesome place to visit.

Washington DC is lovely in the spring.

That's such a good idea, to find an event or something that looks amazing and then plan a trip around that.

Historically, I would give Savannah GA as a great pick for that!
Beach.. I love Tampa or Sarasota.

Charleston, SC is having their historic home and garden festival at the end of March/beginning of April this year. It might be worth if you are a history fan but want nightlife and cultural things as well. There are some amazing restaurants in Charleston.

  • I'm a little biased, but if you're looking to go somewhere historical, I'd go with Boston and I'd definitely do that closer to June than March.

  • I loved DC!

New Orleans is on our list too...
  • Not sure where you are located, but fly into DC and spend a few days there and then drive to the Outer Banks (about 4ish hours from there).  I'd go in May or early June - good weather and smaller beach crowds!

I'd recommend Charleston, SC or St. Augustine, FL.  You can get your history fix as well as beaches! :)

  • As PP's said, I absolutely love New Orleans and would definitely second that suggestion... again I think there's something for everyone - history, great food, casino, music, shopping, art, zoos, festivals...of course alcohol.. and if you go around April/May/early June you could take advantage of a hotel pool to cool off in between your excursions or on lazy mornings before you head out.  I recommend Hotel Monteleone if it's in your budget - they have a great roof top pool that serves drinks/food up there.  Or Omni Royal Orleans (both are in the french quarter).  If you need a more budget friendly hotel, we've also stayed at Hotel Provincial which has a courtyard pool.  And around that time of year they have the Jazz Festival, French Quarter Festival and I believe one or two other festivals.

Also, I love Philly, Boston and DC in the springtime.  Philly and DC have cherry blossom (tree) festivals you can look at.  Actually in general I feel like Philly always has something going on.

Sometimes when we're torn between where to visit, we'll see if there's a concert/musician we want to see, or a play in one city or another and then make a trip around that.

I wouldn't say I'm worldly, but you definitely hit my soft spot... I can talk travel all day

I really enjoyed Seattle.  It's probably one of my favorite cities I've been to.

@ineedmorecoffee You might like Boston.  I went in November and liked it.  Tons of history there!

  • Florida Keys. Not Key West unless that's your scene. We stayed about 15 minutes short of Marathon in Long Key and loved it.

This would be a good time of year to go, I think.

We went in February. If they go in the earlier part of the time frame, then it's good. Or less crowded later.

I ready to go right now.
  • Highly recommend New Orleans. Was one of my favorite trips ever. You have food music culture and lots of BOOZE!

  • I used to live in Charleston and we still go once a month or more for day trips so I'm a little biased!

It has history, culture, food, nightlife, and beaches. Also, the Tattooed Moose has duck fat fries. What more can you ask for?
