3rd Trimester

Labor pains or...?

41 weeks.  I woke up to pee around 6AM and as soon as I started moving around, I was greeted by this ache that's mostly in my lower back, but really wraps around me like a belt.  The thing is, it's not coming and going like contractions should.  It's just a constant uncomfortable ache, maybe vaguely like menstrual cramps.  Still here an hour later.  If it's not gone soon, I'll call my doctor.  Thoughts?  This is my first, so I'm not sure what to expect, other than labor might start at any moment.

  • Oh my, I would definitely call your labor and delivery if you haven't already!

  • My labor began with menstrual-like cramps and steadily became more obviously contractions. Good luck!

  • I've definitely heard of that being an immediate precursor to labor, although I haven't experienced it firsthand (yet). When my mom was pregnant with me, she felt kind of crampy and had a bad case of indigestion all day. She went to bed and it hadn't stopped by the next morning, so she went to the doctor. It turned out she was at 6 cm and in active labor, but for whatever reason, she just wasn't feeling her contractions until they broke her water at the hospital. So yeah... definitely listen to your body and give your doctor a call.
