November 2012 Moms

i can do this

sam has been babysat a few times but not on a regular basis...

Tomorrow her auntie (dads twin sister) will be taking LO up to wine country for the day while we go to our annual poker tournament and I am trying hard not to be overly "motherly" :)  I figure this is only the first step in gaining a little independence both for us and her..!

I know a few of you have aleady been doing overnights and such for quie a while... anyone NEVER had someone else watch the LO yet?

  • We have had mil and my mom watch LO for a date. But never overnight. However, after our health stuff we are looking forward to our first overnight date. As long as I had crazy awesome trust in the person watching LO I would enjoy myself!

  • I haven't done overnight yet----just out for a few hours.

It just hit me the other day that there will need to be an overnight plan soon as V will need to adjust to someone other than me when I am in the hospital for new baby. My heart hurts just thinking about being away from him. : (

  • N goes to grandmas overnight once a week now.
I have to leave for the office super early, so it is easier for him to sleepover, than for me to get him up at 4:30am to drop him off.
This will only be going for a while longer as new LO is due in less than 8 weeks and I'm only working 5 more.

If I didn't have to go to the office, he wouldn't be spending the night anywhere.
  • Only once. We were all supposed to go to in laws but then I had to grandma sit and I told DH to go anyway since they were looking forward to seeing M. Have to say that even though it was strange sleeping alone I slept nine hrs and got so
    Much done. Don't worry!
  • We don't really have family close, so LO has never been away from us overnight. MIL watched him for maybe 2 hours back in Dec when she was visiting... and that was it.

I started doing weekly play dates with a few friends. We get a babysitter to play with the kids in the playroom while we have coffee and real, adult conversations for about an hour. The 1st week was rough (for both of us), but it's gotten so much better.

This sounds like an awesome opportunity. Like PP said, if you trust auntie, then go for it

  • My parents live somewhat close (about an hour away) and they love to keep LO over night. I don't worry because I know she is in great hands and I'm close if anything happens and it gives DH and I time for ourselves which is nice.

  • I've been away from DD on two separate weekends.  She stayed with DH the first weekend and MIL came to our house to watch her for the second weekend.  It wasn't quite as hard as I imagined.  My parents and my MIL watch DD three days during the week and she's at a sitter the other two days.  This has made the transition to overnights easier for me.  When I'm in the hospital having LO2, MIL will come to our house to watch DD for at least one night.

  • I have never left LO with anyone other than MIL and FIL. We didn't want her to have to hang out in the waiting room for an 8 hour surgery. Otherwise, she is with me or daddy. We don't have anyone close. We have a date night planned in March. It seems so far away.

  • I am lucky too. My parents live close and will watch LO whenever we ask and sometimes even ask us if they can just for fun. My mom even has a crib at her house which is awesome!

  • Never overnight.  But I have had the nanny watch him for a couple hours while we went out to dinner/wedding/etc.
  • They are gone... SO just left to take her to aunties and switch cars.... I DID call with a few "pointers" for auntie but did't go mom-crazy (i.e pleae don't let her eat in  he car and she had a rough night so be ready for a couple meltdowns)

Its not overnight... we should be home between 5-7 depending on how we do at the tourney.... but its a full day!

I just hope it goes well ... not worried about safety etc... more worried about LO sensing something is up
