So Hannah can climb up stairs... how do you teach them to go DOWN stairs? Any tips or advice? lol

We started showing G how to back off the furniture and the steps out front, and then he carried that over to the stairs. We would turn him backwards and let him slide down. Have fun and good luck!

I think we too just showed him how he should turn around, and move on his belly. Now he scoots forward and down, but he is several months older than Hannah, so that might be awhile yet.

I taught a ton of kids to go down the stairs when I was a babysitter and I used to stand them next to me on the stairs and show them how to lie down on their belly and then slide from one step to the next using their feet. And often for the first few times you have to move their feet for them until they get it.

Honestly DS is 22 months and we just had to start doing it because I can't carry him and the dog down every day. We have everything gated so I never worried about it before but now he has to so we walk behind him and show him he has to be on his belly going down one foot at a time. He's going pretty well but needs someone behind because they get crazy and thing they can stand up and turn around and boom it's down the stairs.

I guess we are the odd ones. I initially taught E to scoot down on her bottom. She would sit on one step with her feet on the step below. Then I would scoot her butt down onto the same step as her feet, then move her feet down another step. She did it that way for a while. Then suddenly one day just flipped over and started sliding down on her belly. We practice once a day (we feed the cats upstairs, and that is E's "chore").
We still stay one step below her all the way up and down though.

I tried to do the on the belly but Declan just climbed back up them so it was always a no go so we are trying to get him to walk down them but he is the type to never do anything until he is absolutely ready hence why he walked along furniture for 4 months before letting go

I feel even odder. DD started going down on her behind for a bit (at 14 months), but it wasn't long before she just started walking down them while holding my hands. She now only holds onto one hand, and when get to where the spindles are (top half is wall on each side), she usually prefers to hold on to those and walk down by herself. I am always right in front of her with a hand at the ready, just to be safe.

We taught A to go down the stairs sliding on her bottom. Eventually they learn how to hold onto the railing and walk down, but I think she was almost 2 before she could really do this and she still had to hold your hand.

My boys figured out how to go down on their bellies without any real help, as we had a lot of discussions about going down on bellies when they'd come off of furniture. So, they just started doing it for everything. I'd like them to go down on their bottoms, but my boys are under the 5th percentile for height and just can't reach with their little legs!!
