Getting milk back ?

Hello everyone . My son is now 8 weeks old. For the first 5 weeks or so I was nursing but also supplementing . I regret not continuing and working harder on my milk . Well I can still get some out and was wondering if anyone ever had any experience on getting a good supply back . Or if it's even possible . Even if I had to supplement some . Thank you all in advance .

Re: Getting milk back ?

  • Yes it is possible, you have to work at it, but it is possible. I had a friend at 1 year her supply dropped she rented a hospital grade pump (this maybe covered by insurance, if not you can use your FSA to pay for it, if you have one) and that helped her supply. I personally had supply issues and it took until about 4 month for my supply to be up enough to primarily feed her BM. Good Luck!

  • Definitely possible!  I'd ditto the kellymom suggestion and encourage you to work with an IBCLC to get a solid plan in place based on your specific situation.  Frequent nursing (and pumping in the beginning) are key!
  • Drinking this tea also increases my supply.
    Don't give up! Good luck.
  • Thank you everyone . I have a tea like that one and plan on buying fenugreek tomorrow! Is there a way to know when your posts get replied to ? I use the mobile app .
  • I had supply issues from the beginning due to nipple shield use. I took fenugreek and would pump after every feeding and sometimes in between feeds. It took a little bit but I finally established a good supply and was able to stop supplementing completely. For the first 2-3 weeks of doing that any milk I pumped went right back to LO until his weight issues were no more. Now I can actually freeze extra. It's definitely possible! Just a bit labor intensive :)
