June 2014 Moms

Just curious..

So I have my anatomy scan on Monday and I have noticed that now whenever I lay on my back I tend to get Braxton Hicks Contractions. It happens basically every time. Is this happening to anyone else? Or did it while you were having a scan? Just curious if it will cause any complications trying to see the baby if my uterus is hard as a rock lol.

Re: Just curious..

  • I have BH quite often now and with DS. I also had some during my scans with DS and the tech never said anything. It was more uncomfortable for me with the probe pressing on my already tight abdomen LOL It should be fine :)

  • Ok. Thank you!!
  • I've been getting them a lot too. But my dr isn't concerned as long as it's not more then 4 an hr.
  • How would I know? Sometimes I get something twitchy, but pretty sure that's baby.

Idk if it is the same for everyone, but my uterus becomes hard as a rock and gets a tightening feeling. Almost like it is trying to shrink but not obviously. Its not painful but uncomfortable, if I turn to my side it stops almost instantly. I get them If I am walking to much too.
  • Make sure to drink a lot of water. The hydration will help with that.

I think any time in your second trimester they can start.
I started getting them around 17 weeks.

Another FTM question- Do they ever cause spotting/bleeding? I started walking intensely on Saturday, did it again Sunday and Wed.. And after I was done wed came home and found brown blood.. Thats the only thing I have changed really.. So I just took it easy for a couple days not really knowing what caused it.. Do the Braxton hicks cause bleeding sometimes?

Not sure if it causes bleeding, but my OB said in the second tri u might spot due to placenta changes.
FTM also. How do you now there contractions. If I lay on my back I get really bad pressure on my bladder area it even hurts to get up or walk.

Ooh maybe I bled cuz the walking caused the placenta changes?! Hmm idk. But good to know!

I dont get any pressure. I mainly know because my uterus gets reaaaaally hard and feels like it is tightened up. I feel pressure from the tightening but not from it pressing on my bladder.

Yea that's what I was thinking when she explained to me after I had some bleeding. She said as long it's not bright red or enough to soak a pad u should be ok. Glad it helped :)

No, it was all brown and filled up the top of a small panty liner.. TMI but like it came out with the vaginal fluid. I have an at home doppler and listened to the heart beat right after (thank gosh for those things lol) just wanted to try and narrow it down to what could have caused it so i can try to avoid it from happening again. Thanks for that info!!!
  • I have been getting BH contractions for a few weeks now, and lately, I get them many time during the day. Very normal at this point, especially if you aren't a FTM. It won't interfere at all with your ultrasound.
