Alright bikini waxers... I got a question

Just had my wax done... a little earlier than I would have liked before my repeat c/s but I honestly couldn't stand it anymore and scheduling it next week was proving to be problematic so whatever.  Anyway... everyone says that the hard wax is less painful than the strips.  I'm calling BS on that.  At least for me, the strips are a lot less painful.  I barely even jumped for that part.  But the hard wax... OMG- I was seriously jumping off the table.  Am I just weird?  I'm thinking that I should just ask for the strips from now on b/c seriously, the hard wax took longer and hurt more.  What is your experience- which one is worse?

  • OK good, so at least I'm not the ONLY one.  The lady today was really nice but I had been so jumpy with the hard wax that when she ripped off the strip and I barely flinched, she actually checked to make sure I was breathing- ha!  I told her that one didn't hurt as bad and she was like WHAT?!  That should have been way worse!

  • Might have been the person who waxed you. I prefer the hard wax. I just did mine yesterday & I felt like it was totally fine. The hard wax doesn't get s hot as the strip wax & I think it's faster. Sorry you had such a bad experience.
  • I definitely prefer the hard wax -- hurts less and my skin is much happier afterwards. Strips seem to irritate me for days after, which is MISERABLE. I've tried a variety of spots in my city that have rave reviews but hands-down, gotta go with the hard stuff...

  • I agree that it might be the person who waxed you. I think hard wax is wayyy more gentle than the strips. it still hurts but not nearly as bad and the sting afterwards is so much less. did she use baby powder? my esthetician puts on baby powder then the wax then baby powder again to harden it.

  • It all hurts.  No kind of wax hurts more or less than other kinds.  It varies more on you and on the technician.  I've done every kind of wax there is over the past 11 years (hard wax, strips, sugaring, etc.), and I don't really think it makes a difference at all.

  • Nope, I don't think it was the technician.  I've had multiple waxes- pregnant and not, and I always find the hard wax is way more painful no matter who does it or where I go.  On the pain scale, I put the strips at a 2 or 3.  That hard wax is a solid 8.  And as for irritation, I've got WAY more redness where the hard wax was than the strips.  I think I'm just a weirdo ;-)  @SgrRay929, yes, it's the picking at it to get it started that hurts the most!  And yes, when I walked out of there, I thought... ok- got that done, baby can come now.

  • I've never had anything waxed with hard wax.  I had a brazilian when I wasn't pregnant with the strips (hot wax and paper/cloth strips) and I didn't think it hurt having it done at all (okay, maybe a just little (like a 2/3), but would do it again without hesitation).

For me the problem is the days/weeks afterwards when it's growing back.... I haven't figured out how to minimize that yet...

  • Ok, not to thread jack but do I need to get waxed before my c-section???

  • In my experience it depends on the area and on who waxes you. I prefer strips for legs and bikini area but hard wax for my brows. Some techs pull the hard wax off a lot slower than strips so it can be way more painful. At least it's over though ;)

If you don't, they will shave you in the OR after the spinal. They did this with my first and did such a bad job that the ingrown hairs took longer to heal than the incision! So I prefer to have the wax ahead of time. Ideally I would have had it about 4-7 days ahead but I have too much to do next week and honestly... I HATE waiting for it to grow out so I just wanted it done. If baby comes early, I'm set. If I make it to my scheduled c/s, I will probably still be ok (my hair is slow).

I totally agree, this is why I don't do it regularly- I hate the growing phase more than anything!!!

I don't post much, but I have to ask...why do you have to be waxed to get a c section? I delivered dd vaginally and no one touched down there like that. Is that not normal?
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • @dizzykates you have to be waxed/shaved for a c/s because they need the area for the incision to be hair-free, like any surgery.
